Kiffin still out in Oakland

Lane Kiffin is finished in Oakland; it's now a matter of when. His fate was sealed Wednesday, when Kiffin told the media that the 41-14 Monday night meltdown against the Broncos happened in large part because defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and the team's owner conspire to exclude him from defensive decisions. With that, the NFL's youngest head coach was dead to Al Davis. "We don't have a general manager; everything goes through the owner," Kiffin said Wednesday. "That sets up a difficult situation at times. Knowing who the owner is, you know from Day 1 there's no job security." Davis then summoned Ryan into his office and told his loyal defensive coordinator to strike back. Ryan's 18-minute, profanity laced clarification of his job responsibilities Thursday was not spontaneous. Multiple team sources confirmed Sunday that Ryan spoke publicly at the request of Davis. Publicly, Ryan made himself the fall guy. Inside the Raiders' organization, he assumed the mantle of hero. "Hell, somebody had to stand up and be a leader on this team," one Raiders source said proudly in the postgame locker room Sunday, praising Ryan's stance against Kiffin. "Rob acted like a leader. He stood up for this team and these players. He took responsibility. Unlike the head coach." By doing so, Ryan probably assured himself of becoming the 17th head coach in Raiders history when Davis finally decides he's had enough of Kiffin.

I don't know whats wrong with Davis.
People From Brooklyn usually are not that **** up in the head

Get out while you can Kiffin. Someone will give you another chance somewhere.

Anyone gets **** -up in the head if they surround themselves with a bunch of boot licking sychophants..... every leader needs at least one person to tell them that their every decision is not chiseled on to stone tablets and brought down from the mountain top..... this will never change Raider fans, so just continue to dress up like clowns, go to the games and pretend your team is still relevant.....

Okay, so who's in line to be #18 when the White Jumpsuit gets tired of Ryan?

September 15, 2008  08:04 AM ET

The Raiders are done. Al Davis would not give up his reigns on taking control of the team, Kiffin just committed a job suicide by talking about the owner and manager. No matter how good Kiffin is, Davis won't allow him to say what he said. Gruden is the QB killer while Davis is the coach killer.

Marvin Lewis might beat Kiffin to the unemployment line.

add the Rams coach to that list they look like they couldnt beat a college team right about now

September 15, 2008  08:59 AM ET

Al Davis is an adiot!!!!

September 15, 2008  09:05 AM ET

Al Davis is so mentally f'ed up. He needs to sell the Raiders and go live in an old-folks-home where he can sit around pooping in his diapers all day and reflect on how the Raiders were once good --- like 30 years ago.

September 15, 2008  09:14 AM ET

BoBo's money is on Marvin Lewis going first. Then the Rams coach (Lanihan?), then Kiffin.

September 15, 2008  09:18 AM ET

No matter who the raiders can convince to take the title of "head coach" the team does not have enough talent to win very often. Odd that both the bay teams won on Sunday. How often has that happened in the last since the start of the 2003 season? Both teams have serious problems in the personnel decision department. $80 million for Clements and $55 million for Javon Walker?!

It is amazing for me to see a great franchise being dismantled and murdered by the same man that helped build the great team. Al Davis is making a once storied franchise into the single most laughed at item in the NFL. I think the old Raiders need to come back and voice this to the man that once brought greatness.

Al Davis needs to retire. He doesn't know he has a good coach when he has one.

Why would Davis hire USCs Offensive Coorinator, who had only been a COLLEGE COORDINATOR for a couple of years...... because he wanted someone he could control..... this is why Gruden will NEVER come back..... Gruden went to Tampa for control and he got it.....the GM effectively became a lame duck and left after the first year....

Yes but I will give Mr. Davis eight hundred ninety dollars and fourty-four cents if he takes Gruden back. I can pay my rent some other time, but Chucky needs to go NOW.

Al Davis is the biggest joke that this league has ever seen. He's still mad that they made Pete Rozelle the commish over him, so he takes it out on his coaches. He's creating Mike Shanahan Jr. with Lane Kiffin. I can't wait until Kiffin comes back and beats Davis, even if it is with the Chargers after Norv gets fired.

I'm not a lawyer but the NFL should look into "Immedient public domain takeover" of this Raider team, but that would a be costly court battle, Davis looks like his is about to kick the bucket any day, we'll just have to settle on having this team be a laughing stock in NFL. Its Davis money but when you see the foolish mistakes, trades for players he has made, then acts like a child about not firing Kiffin because he refuses to pay him, it gets more ridiculous.
Fire him and be done with it, else its a long season.
