The Trail Blazers are considering signing former Los Angeles Clippers point guard Shaun Livingston after top members of the Blazers front office viewed an hour workout with the 23-year-old point guard Friday in Tucson, Ariz. The workout was viewed by general manager Kevin Pritchard, assistant general manager Tom Penn and coach Nate McMillan. Pritchard confirmed the workout, but declined to comment on how Livingston looked, or where the Blazers were in the process. Livingston is still recovering from a devastating injury to his left knee that caused him to miss all of last season.

This is crazy. They already have too many PGs. They have about 4 PGs already. Unless they are trying to create controversies and at the same time they are planning to trade some of their PGs.

September 15, 2008  08:05 AM ET

McMillan wants to collect PGs like Jon Gruden collects QBs.

September 15, 2008  08:51 AM ET

It would be a good story to see Livingston come back and contribute after that knee injury.

I thought I saw this story a few days ago, didn't I?

Guam,

Agreed...this is a head scratcher for me as well. If they do sign Livingston, it will be for future plans. That means Blake, Rodriguez, Bayless, AND Livingston are all future trade baits.

I wish I can understand what Kevin Pritchard is thinking. But the guy's record so far is impeccable, so he has earned the benifit of the doubt in P-Town.

In Kevin we trust is the saying around here...

Don't the Blazers already have 35 players under contract?

September 15, 2008  11:40 AM ET

More is better

September 15, 2008  11:56 AM ET

Wow he's only 23, feels like he's been around forever.

September 15, 2008  12:08 PM ET

Can't see it. The Blazers have a lot of players under contract and a ton of point guards.

Either that, or more disconcerning, they prolly don't think Roy's recovery is going well!!
I cannot think Shuan will EVER be trade bait. Everyone knows he's one cross-over dribble away from another blown knee. Redemption is great, but why with the Blazers??
Unless Roy is the reason.

September 15, 2008  12:47 PM ET

The Suns were considering taking a flyer on Livingston before they went out and shot their wad on Dragic. Desipte the injury, I'd consider him a possibiliity since he's still young, tall, and would take to learning from Nash. Who knows at this point what will happen, but I don't think he's a wise pickup for POR.

"Livingston is still recovering from a devastating injury to his left knee that caused him to miss all of last season"

As I said about ANYWHERE he is rumored to go.....if a GM is smart- STAY AWAY-
he is far too brittle to devote any time & $ to.....

it's not like he was lighting it up BEFORE his injuries
- and although 23 isn't old.....he's not a 'youngster' anymore.

September 15, 2008  01:28 PM ET

send livington 2 the ock. thunder he has not proved himself 2 be a potential star nba player as yet!

September 15, 2008  01:41 PM ET

I would sign him and take a chance on the minimum salary he would demand

September 15, 2008  01:42 PM ET

Heat should sign him.

September 15, 2008  02:13 PM ET

ESPN-

Even if needed, Roy's backup is Rudy Fernandez or Martell Webster. It would not be Livingston.

With LaFrentz out for the year and his over inflated expiring contract, I would not be surprise if there is a big trade in the works for the Blazers.

September 15, 2008  02:56 PM ET

So the Wolves are desperate for pg help. They trade Chalmers after drafting him. Resign Bassyfkingtelfair. And now there's talk of John Lucas? Why not throw a lowball one yr offer w/ an option for another or two at this guy? Because we're run by Kevin McHale, and that's how he rolls.

Stockpiling young talent with minimal contracts is smart. You figure that Roy, Oden, and Aldridge are the core of the team, but competition amongst the rest should supply portland with the best. Additionally, Livingston wouldn't be thrust into a major role right away, allowing him to slowly work his way back into the game. Yes, Portland does already have a lot of players under contract, especially pgs, but by packaging a lot of young talent Portland can try to pry all-stars away from other teams, while maintaining depth and youth.

September 15, 2008  03:26 PM ET

I believe Shaun should be given another shot, but Portland has too many PGs. Maybe Dallas should take a look at him after giving up Harris for Kidd or maybe the Warriors after losing Ellis for a couple months.
