How bad is Big Ben's injury?

There is no denying that Ben Roethlisberger played hurt Sunday night. How much pain the quarterback endured in his right shoulder while leading the Steelers to a 10th consecutive victory over the Cleveland Browns remains a matter of speculation. What should be comforting to Steelers fans: Roethlisberger's shoulder injury does not appear to be serious, and he does not appear to be in danger of missing Sunday's game at Philadelphia.

Good luck to Philly against these guys and they do have them at home.

NFC East is BEAST; Go Cowboys

If you watched the game his passes were tight spirals and he wasn't rolling his shoulder after the pass like one would if it was hurting him.

September 16, 2008  07:57 AM ET

His shoulder isn't a problem. He had no problem throwing, and had some serious pop on his throws both short and long.

September 16, 2008  08:36 AM ET

Based on his throws Sunday night, it doesn't look like the shoulder is affecting him that much. That being said, if he takes another hit to that shoulder, it could become a significant issue.

Here's a thought.
Why wasn't Rogers hit with a flag for his hit on Ben in the second half. Ben threw a pass, then Rogers continued towards him for a good three steps, lowered his head, aimed, and popped Ben directly in his bad shoulder.

The hit was clearly aimed at further damaging the shoulder and was most definitely late. This was the only time Ben was clearly in pain during the game.

Considering Woodley got whacked with a 15 yarder for a hit on Anderson in which Woodley was in the air before Anderson threw the ball, there should be some equity here.

Deliberately hitting a QB in his throwing arm/shoulder can end a season every bit as quickly as a shot to the knees or a blow to the head.

I dont like Big Ben or the Steelers but i dont want to see any QB hurt, i feel that it takes away from the game.

Awww!

I watched the game on Sunday night and that hit on Ben from Rodgers was near that shoulder. Ben was even walking toward the sideline grimmacing. I really hope it's not serious. My football season without Ben is nothing! =(

There's no doubt that Rogers took a cheap shot at Ben and should have been penalized for roughing the quarterback.

September 16, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Yeah, I couldn't believe that Rogers wasn't called...he took two steps after the ball was gone.
They gotta throw more on first down, or whatever it takes to stay out of those 3rd and long situations. That's when the Dmen pin back their ears and Ben'll get hurt.
Do they have a soft game coming...should they rest Ben for a game?

I agree man.

I must, just must admit, I did like Brady going down, just not for a year...thats just uncool. I like competitions as much as the next guy.

They playing the Eagles lol ... the Steelers have the toughest schedule in the NFL

September 16, 2008  07:06 PM ET

I agree...T-Fo. Fat Rogers threw his shoulder into Ben's shoulder and was deliberately trying to do damage. I cannot even comprehend how Big 12 O-linemen blocked him and obese Casey Hampton at the same time. I am sure room and board skyrocketed with those two eating on campus.

September 16, 2008  07:06 PM ET

He's not injured. He just wants a little play time.

September 16, 2008  10:09 PM ET

crazy question, what is the song they play at Heinz Field right before kickoff every game? I have heard it at other stadiums too.

September 16, 2008  11:03 PM ET

Get better baby

The schedule doesn't look nearly as tough as it did prior to the season start. SD, NE, IND and JAX all look weaker than they did in the past. If they can get past the Eagles, they have a fair chance of being 6-0 or 5-1 heading into the Giants game. They have BAL, JAX and CIN in addition to the Eagles this week before that game.

Ben will be fine. This is no big deal.

Sincerely,

Steelers Fan
