Vikings coach hedging on Tarvaris?
About 21 hours after saying he is "definitely our quarterback next week," Vikings coach Brad Childress tempered his commitment to Tarvaris Jackson as his starter Monday at Winter Park. "I'm always looking at what's giving us the best opportunity to win," Childress said, repeating one of his favorite mantras. "If it's Tarvaris, it's Tarvaris. If it's Gus Frerotte, it's Gus Frerotte. J.D. Booty, it's J.D. Booty." Childress then acknowledged his definitive statement shortly after Sunday's 18-15 loss to the Indianapolis Colts before noting that the situation is "ongoing." It's not clear whether Childress' comments are aimed at lighting a fire under Jackson, or sending a message to his players that Jackson isn't necessarily locked in as starting quarterback. But Childress, who earned a degree in psychology at Eastern Illinois, likely had an objective in mind.

T-Jack is whack.I never thought he would amount to a real NFL QB.He looks like he's scared and completely unsure of himself when playing.

The Vikes should seriously consider bringing in Jeff Garcia. He is on the "outs" in Tampa, and has proven in Philly and San Francisco he can lead a team to the playoffs. Garcia would come cheap and is a very competent qb. The Vikes don't need a superstar qb, just a guy to move the chains and use play-action effectively when teams overplay the run. Garcia is the perfect fit.

Jackson might not be the answer. But, they have to open the playbook alittle and WR/TEs have to make catches.

The Colts never should have won that game. Timid play calling by the Vikes and some help from the officials gave the game away. It wasnt all on Jackson.

Well they need a better QB you can't put the whole load on AP. The QB have to get the ball to his play maker at the WR, and spread the ball around if you want to win. Vikes have a good team just not good at QB. Maybe looking for a trade with the Bucs for Garcia won't hurt you, you will need a good QB and he might help out.

Great game, but if I am the Cowboys then the Eagles are the team I least want to see in the play offs.....Not that much difference between them...Cowboys have more talent, but the Eagles have better coaching....Just my opinion...

It wasn't all on Jackson, but whenever he drops back to pass,he looks confused....."Am I supposed to throw it or run with it" They were playing a Colts team that wasn't 100% and they blew it.Good teams don't make that mistake...especially on their own turf.I'm not saying you go Patriots on them (run up the score) but you gotta show 'em who's wearing the pants in the family.

this is a great idea... T-Jack can't and won't get it done, he needs a Vetern to mold him before he is going to be a starting QB... just to throw another QB out there.. is CULPEPPER.... interesting

I think Jackson can be decent for this team. He won't be a Pro Bowl QB, but they odn't need that. Manage the game and take care of the ball.

While he hasn't looked great, he was missing his most sure-handed threat down the stretch in Rice, and he was handcuffed by drops and bad playcalling. I know it's an excuse, and a proven vet like Garcia WOULD do better, the receiving corps in Minnesota isn't at all good. And having to look over your shoulder because you're missing your starting tackle also hurts.

I also think that bringing in Garcia is a good move as long as you're not giving up much. He'd be a good mentor to Jackson, becasue he's been a mobile quarterback in the league and had success. He's had to earn his sopt and it would be good for a guy like that to help move his game along.

How many years has Jackson been in the league 2? Lots of young QB's are having trouble, reading defense, routes, and right! coaches need to manage the game better, play calling.
It all comes down to experience at QB, just look at Peyton Manning, lost 4 offensive linemen, he willed a win. For the Viking, I say handle with care, Garcia? Get Cullpeper at Bargain rate, old happy feet might help but his days are numbered, won't help win the big one, send his butt to the CFL.

but they have to have a ball that's catchable. How many did he throw in the turf on Sunday? When you don't have any pressure in the pocket and have a wide open receiver, you simply can't underthrow them in the NFL.

why do they even need a qb? they have two great RB's. thow a fullback in the backfield between them, and snap it straight to the RB's.
