Oregon QB may return for USC
Oregon quarterback Justin Roper, who suffered a knee injury during the first overtime period of the Ducks' 32-26 win at Purdue, may return in two weeks, coach Mike Bellotti said Monday. "He's off the crutches, he's walking around with a brace,'' Bellotti said. "He has a partial tear of his (medial collateral ligament). They ruled him out this week and only questionable for next week and probable for the following week.'' Boise State visits Autzen Stadium on Saturday. The following week, the Ducks travel to Pullman to face Washington State. And the following week is the suddenly very imposing matchup with USC in Los Angeles.

I've got lots of respect for the Ducks' offense...but so does the USC defense. This year, they'd even stop Dennis Dixon. Duck fans, face it: you'll beat USC only if USC helps you do so (which has happened, as we all know). There are Pac 10 teams which won't beat USC even if USC helps them (WA state, for example), but you're good enough to take advantage of Trojan screw-ups. But if the Trojans play even a little like they did against OSU...there's not a team in the Pac 10 that stays within two touchdowns of them. (I would amend this comment some if the Trojans were going to Autzen this year.)

Jamesbt,
I got to WSU and unfortunately I agree with you. I have no idea what is going on with our team. We have 2 great backs, but new coach Paul Wulff insists on his shotgun spread while he doesnt have the players. Our offense & defense would of been way better this year under Doba. The only hope we have is that Eastern Washington, Wulff's old team, played both TexasTech & Colorado and stayed competative most of the game. USC's 3rd string would still run our team out of the house.
In the long run, it prolly good Roper got hurt... the 2 backups, while inexpereinced, are very athletic...coming from a Dennis Dixon mold. Oregon has no chance against USC... just like every team in the PAC 10 this year.

I agree with Jamesbt if USC plays like they did against OSU it will be hard for anyone out there to beat them. Plus with Oregon @ USC it plays in their favor as well. The only way I see Oregon coming away with a win on Oct 4th is if they have Masoli, Harper, JJ, and Blount hitting on all cylinders. The D is good enough to hang if the O can step up, but if the O goes 3 and out numerous times they will get too tired and the USC offense will pull away. I think Oregon's speed is up there, but the Ducks will have to play their best ball with no mistakes to win. If the mistakes do happen, USC could make it ugly like it was 2 years ago at USC.

Call me crazy fellow USC fans, but the state of Oregon (and it's two Pac-10 programs) make me more nervous than any other state/program in the conference when it comes to potential threats for the Trojans.

You're not crazy Keith (fellow USC fan); I'm with you in that "nervous re the state of Oregon." (And I live here!) But the only reason Or State makes us nervous is that blasted game two years ago (or whenever it was). (Exhibit A in "USC beats itself." Exhibit B is Stanford last year.) The Beavers have not shown much this year so far, so I think on the 25th, even though we're in Corvallis, we can make mistakes, lose a little focus, and still win. But the Ducks.... can't do that against them. One thing in particular: Pete Carroll never seems to have good special teams, and the Trojans can get burned that way, and the Ducks seem to have some talent there.
Hey ocduck (what's up with this--I'm in Portland and a USC fan, you're in Newport Beach and a Duck fan? I make up for it by rooting also for Portland State--go Vikings)--you're right if all those guys "hit on all cylinders" it'll be tough for the Trojans. But do you see that happening, even against a lesser defense than USC? Have all those guys hit on all cylinders in one game--that is, against a defense with a pulse? Can the Duck D-line and backers close holes like the ones the Trojans opened against the Buckeyes? From what I saw Saturday, it don't look good for the Pac 10. Obviously, I'm pleased as a Trojan fan, but don't get me wrong: I love it when Pac 10 teams do well. When USC went down to UO last year, I was rooting for the Ducks to go to #1, and I was disappointed in Dixon's injury too. (But to be honest, it didn't hurt like the Stanford loss did.)

One more thing ocduck: Boise State's no pushover. Obviously the wind at Purdue had something to do with all the first half Duck mistakes, but from what you've seen, what do the Ducks have to do to deal with Boise? Can they get away with the boo-boos like they (barely) did this weekend?

As a former student and a life long USC fan; almost every games in the PAC 10 makes me uneasy. Does anyone remember the ASU game three years ago. It took a Bush/Leinart in overdrive to win that game. And I don't care to talk about the two Booty years dealing with UCLA & Stanford respectively.

East Coast Keith- I think I would agree with Jabril. With Stanford last year, I think it's possible for any Pac-10 team to beat us. But that will happen on our worst day and only their best. In the last couple years the oregon schools and the CA schools have done it. Not so worried about the WA or AZ schools. But that makes every game great! Anyone else notice tOSU fans disappear from this site since Saturday? "Fear the Vest!" "Fear the Beanie!" LOL.

I'm a massive Ducks fan, but everyone in the Pac-10 is playing for second behind USC. Everyone in the nation is for that matter.

I just dont think Ropers the man for the job. Against Purdue, with Johnson in the backfield, Roper had a Purdue defense that was consistently keying on Johnson and begging to be burned on an option keeper. He never took advantage of that...he had chance after chance to make them pay but didnt make the read and Purdue didnt respect the play. That wont happen with Harper and Masoli. I like Justin...I would love to see him succeed...but I just dont think hes the man for this program. We have a Baseball team now Justin...can you hit a baseball?

who cares what the ducks bring, this sc defense *THIS YEAR* is the fastest and most scariest in the pete caroll era. Oregons running game might have a chance, as for the pass not going to happen. We will blitz all day make the qb try to win the game, and guess what his name aint Dennis Dixon so we will roll on them come gameday baby
