Gretzky won't manage '10 Olympic team
Bob Nicholson, president of Hockey Canada, confirmed Monday that he wants Wayne Gretzky involved with the 2010 Canadian Olympic team, but it is unlikely that the Great One will serve as the general manager, the way he did for the past two Olympics. "It looks as if Wayne is leaning towards another type of position with us," said Nicholson, in an interview. "That's about as far as I want to go with it today." Nicholson revealed that met with Gretzky in Toronto over the weekend, to begin preliminary talks on his role with the Olympic team and stressed that wants Gretzky involved in some capacity, going into Vancouver in February of 2010.

The word on sports radio here in Detroit this morning is Yzerman is going to take the role over from the "Great One". Team Canada has a lot of pressure in 2010 with having a poor showing in '06 and being in Vancouver.

I wonder if Gretz is looking to coach Team Canada? Would that be a good idea with his limited coaching experience?

That would be a big step for Stevie Y at this point FTR...but he's certainly a guy the team would rally around and unquestionably respect. Yzerman along with Sakic have been huge part's of Canada's international program over the years.

Rejoyce everyone, Wayne is making an on ice comeback...Okay...maybe that's a reach, but he would still be a better selection then Bertuzzi was in 2006!

That is a great picture. Like he just walked in on his dog humping a stuffed animal or his hot wife doing pilates in a gorilla suit or his mom in the kitchen bent over the si......um....nevermind.

I think there is no question there are better options for the coaching position. Gretz's record in Phoenix aside, his limited experience does not put him ahead of other more qualified cnadidates.

I love that photo. Looks like Gretzky is thinking "Did Al Iafrate just take a dump on the bench?"

Maybe he'll get in as an assistant coach. I think maybe he's grooming himself for the 2014 Olympics.

He's been coaching a young Coyotes team with brio last year. One of the top teams on the road and with a nver say die attitude that allowed them to come back from 2-0 or 3-0 on mnay occasions. That shows good coaching to me.

Wise decision! With someone as capable as Steve Y available, why would Gretz want the headache? He's got enough on his plate and, Steve Y knows he can count of Wayne's full support! Git'er done!
