Ozzie plays disrespect card

With his team knee-deep in a pennant chase in which the margin of error is reaching nil, Ozzie Guillen used the New York stage to pull out the disrespect card, throw it on the table and play it loud and clear for all of Chicago to hear -- all the way to the North Side. In the wake of Carlos Zambrano's no-hitter and the Cubs once again all that is seemingly relevant in the Windy City, Guillen was asked about the pennant races taking place on both sides of town. ''We're in the pennant race? Not really,'' Guillen said sarcastically. ''There are a couple people [that believe it], but the Cubs are in the pennant race, and we're not. ''Maybe people feel different, but I feel that way. It was harder for us and we had a tougher season than they had from the beginning. They dominate the league, the division. That's why Chicago people feel sure about the Cubs going and we're not.''

F the Cubs! I hate those north side losers and what's more??? I hate those boy's town fair weather fans that don't even care about the game, they're only there for the beer and hot chicks. I swear, if you go in to Wrigley, 9 of 10 won't know what inning their in, or who the pitcher is, or who the 1st baseman is, or who the manager is, or who Harry Carey is... They won't know that there is another baseball team in Chicago. They forget about the Bulls, since they haven't won in a while, and they forget about the Blackhawks and all those playoffs they made... They have officially lost their rights to the High Life and Windell Middlebrooks needs to come and take it from them.

But at least we're all Bears fans.

Ozzie is saying that cause they are going to lose out to the Twins in the end...

I love the Blackhawks. Their logo is my likeness you know.

US Government is an idiot if he believes that Cub fans don't know baseball, he obviously has never been to Wrigley. Besides, any Cub fan would know that the official beer at Wrigley is Old Style, not Miller! As for Ozzie, he loves to play cards, doesn't matter if it's the race card, the respect card, etc. Ozzie should know that it's his actions alone that bring disrespect to the organization, bottom line is that Ozzie just loves to ****......kinda like a woman.

September 16, 2008  09:35 AM ET

US Government does believe what he says... Ask Derek Lee if he thinks Cubs fans are there for anything other the atmosphere. And yes I have been to Wrigely, and no I was not impressed. I guess it's cool to have a run down-**** park, with concrete falling off the facade, and horrible sight lines and uncomfortable seating and horrible emenities.

BTW: The only good thing about Old Style is the $10 30-packs. You wanna talk about beer that tastes more like urine than beer then talk about Old Style.

MyMiyagiJr sounds like the kinda guy that sits in the bleachers scoping out the shirtless dudes on a hot July afternoon. Sword fight anyone!?!

September 16, 2008  09:39 AM ET

And not paying any attention to the game either... More interested in the McDonalds across the street to add to his 350lb physique. Myagi is the kinda guy to make a sign just to piss off the people behind him when he holds it up... But it doesn't matter b/c the people behind him aren't watching the game either.

Us Sox fans may be trailor trash, but at least we know the game and drink a decent beer. (That's Miller Lite for you hater's out there!)

Doesn't he always. What else is new? It's just Ozzie.

I love Ozzie but he's got to let this go...why does anybody care if the Cubs are more popular.

And Miyagi, Budweiser is the official beer of the Cubs big dog...be careful w/ the "any cub fan would know [ ]" stuff.

Ozzie, and all of you so called White Sox fans, you need to stop worrying about the Cubs and their fans. To the White Sox fans: try going to the Cell to support your team. Yes, they are in a pennant race, haven't you noticed. It appears that you haven't, since there is usually about 20,000 seats available at game time!

Ozzie: if you concentrated more on your bullpen and not to who's paying attention to the Cubs, they would probably get more people out in the late innings. Sox fans: Stop blaming your woes on the Cubs' popularity. The WGN Superstation network made them popular all over the country. Remember, you decided you did not want to be on WGN long before the Tribune company purchased the Cubs. Ozzie, you need to stop ragging the Cubs fans, they are simply supporting their chosen team as they have a right to do. You need to be chastening the Sox fans who barely come out to the park even when you are winning. You can't blame Cub fans for your empty seats and lifless ballpark, even if the food and conditions of the park is better. Ask yourselves why your fans won't come out to support you. I'll give you a good reason; they're not true fans! True fans support their teams through the good and bad times. The White Sox can't even get their fans to support them one year after they've won the World Series. What's up with that?

Sox bring out more than 30k a game...not the 40k Wrigley gets, but I think you need to give up on the "Sox fans don't go to the games" thing just as badly as Ozzie needs to give up on the "Cubs get more coverage" thing.

September 16, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Ozzie is just trying to take focus away from his players to try to relieve the pennant pressure a little bit.

September 16, 2008  10:33 AM ET

To U.S. Government: I beg to differ with you on comment about knowledge of baseball at Cubs' games. Cubs fans are very knowledgeable about baseball and the players on the Cubs and in the broadcast booth. Anyway, how would you know? I am sure that as a die-hard Sox fan, you would not be found within the confines of Wrigley Field, would you?

I'd put up my knowledge of the Cubs, Sox and baseball against you or any other Sox fan any day. It is sickening that you let your hatred of a team cause you to make comments that you make, especially when they are not true. Enjoy your ride as a Sox and then get a life! Don't let your love of the Sox consume you and develop hatred within you, it's not worth it. None of the Sox players will give you a portion of their salaries for your loyalty! . You really sound pathetic!

Oh, and by the way, I am a Chicago fan, period. I do not root against any Chicago team. I do root for the Cubs over the Sox when they play one another. But, I've probably been to more Sox games this year (20) than most Sox fans. The sad thing is, I always get my ticket at the box office right before the game! I bet you weren't there! You were probably at some local bar complaining about Wrigley Field being packed with 41,000 when you had the chance to go and see the Sox. Enjoy your babbling manager by going to see the Sox play and cheer them into the playoffs. Please, stop worrying about the Cubs and their fans. What they do, does not affect how the Sox play ball, period! And finally, the Sox do have a good team. Their problem is that Ozzie, like you (and most Sox fans), are too consumed with what the Cubs are doing. When the Sox lose, and Ozzie is interviewed, the Cubs' poplularity should not enter into his comments. He should be asking this question: Why weren't the stands full when Dwayne Wise hit that grand slam the other day to help us sweep that doubleheader? By the way, I was there! Were You? Probably not, you were probably afraid of getting wet!

And this is one of the main reasons why I detest *most* of the South Siders so much. They are so worried about us, and care more about our club than their own. Now maybe Guillen's worried about the Twins breathing down their necks at only 1 1/2 games back. OK, I can see why some would be worried and more than a little irritable. But do not blame us because you are choking. Look towards your own ballclub.

But hey, nobody can feel safe on the South Side. You can't go five feet without worrying about getting shot. *In case you're too much of a troglodyte, and don't see what I'm doing, here it is in plain, watered down American English: I'm using your "logic," and am throwing out baseless, tired stereotypes in order to show how stupid and wrong it is.* But then again, you are sporting an Obama avatar. And we all know that throws out the same baseless **** about us. So maybe this is nothing more than a waste of time. You could be as beyond hope as that overrated hack is.
