Threet remains Michigan's starter

After Saturday's impressive performance as the starter at Notre Dame, redshirt freshman Steven Threet secured his job as Michigan's quarterback. Threet's greatest progress from the Miami (Ohio) game to Notre Dame came on the longer passes, the ones he missed wildly against the RedHawks. At Notre Dame, he was far more accurate, connecting on 16-of-23 for one touchdown and even hit a couple in the second half driving rain -- a time when the Fighting Irish barely even tried to throw the ball. While Rodriguez said recently that he would like to have one quarterback emerge and take the reins of the job, as Threet has done, he's not entirely pleased.

What other choice do they have????? Sheridan? I would rather have Carlos Brown then him

September 16, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Yeah, at this point he is the best option undoubtedly.

He seems to be making better / faster decisions. The O-line has been gelling too... We might be able to steal a big ten win in the next few weeks... maybe..

Agreed Men! While he is not the prototypical Spread QB, he is cleary more effective when he's in there. Stick with him Coach Rod.

September 16, 2008  11:05 AM ET

My reading of the posts before the season started was that Threet was the man. Why did it take so long for RichRod to see it?

September 16, 2008  12:01 PM ET

Because both QB suck? Ummm maybe cuz R Rod don't understand Meechigggan Fuutball!

Bim - you guys have Wisconsin, then Illinois. Well you do have an off week, so they can't lose this week. But I'd say your next win should be against Toledo. Then three more L's against
@ Penn St., MSU, & Purdue. Then maybe you'll slip past Minnesota, then Northwestern. And finish the year with another L to tOSU.

Tough year, but I'm sure you michigan boys can take it!

I just wonder how behind Feagin is not to allow him to play.

Threet is making better decisions here and there and is a little more accurate

September 16, 2008  12:19 PM ET

I just wonder how behind Feagin is for him not to be able to play.

Threet is making better decisions though and was a little more accurate last game.

THE TRUTH

You have to go with what's giving you the best chance to win, which is having Threet on the field at QB. Please RickRod, you have my heart in your undeserving hands, do not let this program go into the toilet!

September 16, 2008  02:52 PM ET

this article is rediculous. threet hasnt been that impressive. he got yanked early in the third quarter for sheridan, and put back in after sheridan threw two picks.

September 16, 2008  03:15 PM ET

I don't think you can completely fault Sheridan for the picks. The conditions were atrocious and ND pretty much knew at that point in the game that MU was going to throw the ball.

September 16, 2008  04:08 PM ET

Hey, bkelly, moron . . . I am assuming you watched the game? The kid was pulled because he had leg cramps. On top of that he was 16 of 23 for over 10 yards a completion in a mostly rainy and sometimes driving rainstorm. If you read the stat line (box score) without the turnovers, you would think Michigan won the game. This win for ND was a gift. Of Michigan's 6 turnovers (4 fumbles, 2 int (by Sheridan, the other MI QB)), only 1 was actually forced by ND. I repeat this game was a gift. And the redshirt freshman QB, Threet, was impressive.

The UM defense is also much better than it's showing right now.

Michigan will win 1 of the 2 against WI or IL maybe even both.

Dude, wake up! Have you even watched meeechigan play this year? My two year old looks better then any player on their team.

Sure, meeechigan could look better, but they make stupid mistakes that prevent them from looking like a D1 team.

September 16, 2008  05:33 PM ET

sexton. your obviously a michigan hater. try not to sound stupid when you say things like "..prevent them from looking like a D1 team." Thats crazy talk. We have maybe one senior on our offense the rest or freshies and sophomores with some juniors as well. Our Defense is sweet if we can give them a breather and have the offense run more than 3 and outs. We are gonna be sweet next year and I think we might still surprise some people with a big win later in the season.

September 16, 2008  05:42 PM ET

Regarding Feagin, it's my understanding that he can't throw spirals and is having some issues with the playbook, which is why he has started practicing at WR.

Threet has been solid the last couple games (minus the fumbles). I don't see any reason for him not to start.

September 16, 2008  05:52 PM ET

Ignorance is bliss . . . isn't it Sexton.

September 16, 2008  06:02 PM ET

It's going to be another off season full of recruiting drama for Michigan.

September 16, 2008  06:30 PM ET

RR and his gutter football.

September 16, 2008  10:30 PM ET

Hay RR running off Millet is starting to bit you in your as-s.

OBVIOUSLY!! Hey I'm just playing the same roll as MOST of the meeeeeechigannnnnn fans. You can cry all you want, but your team looks phucked this year. I'll try not to sound stupid if your skunkbears try & look like a real D1 team! Your team might win 3 or 4 games this year. Yeah, I know your defense is "sweet", but your OFFENSE looks like a High School team. Maybe they should play Kalamazoo Central, or Hackett or Schoolcraft or even Parchment.

Oh, I see, because your offense is full of young talented kids that gives you a pass this year.... sorry I don't see it that way. Your team lost it's first game @ home, followed that with a "tough" win against Miami OF OHIO! Then you gave ND a 21-0 spot in the first 4 1/2 mins into the game!

Like I said, meeeeechigannnnnn should win against Toledo. Maybe against Minnesota, & even Northwestern, but everybody else will hand meeeeeeechigannnnnn a big fat L.

Sure, you can call me a hater, if that makes you feel better. Oh, yeah, you guys might "surprise" some people this year. Just not me. And next year will be much of the same. So where do you think Dick-Rod will end up coaching after 2009? CFL????

Sure is YooperZ!

I lov this line "If you read the stat line (box score) without the turnovers, you would think Michigan won the game. This win for ND was a gift." Well, turnovers ARE part of the game. But just because you get a turnover that does not put points on the board.

This is not Xbox360, or PS games, you can't hit the reset button!

I can't wait to watch meeeeeechigannnnnnnnn lose 6 or maybe 7 more this year!!
