Five weeks of workouts with trainer Jay Jensen and strength and conditioning coach Bobby Medina have dropped Greg Oden's weight from about 300 to 285. "I'm getting there," Oden says. "I'm not going to say I'm in the best shape of my life, but it's getting a lot better. I can tell the difference the past two weeks." There is no pain in the knee, Oden says. The past five weeks, he has paced himself, working gradually into five-on-five pickup games at the Blazers' training facility but taking part only every other day. This week, Oden will play all four days, "but only three or four games a day," he says.

Oden's a good kid...ever read his blog? Seems like a very down-to-earth person and ver likeable...hope he does well...

Well I like to see what the kid haves, sitting out for the year must of hurt. But this only help him out to get ready for that NBA grind you have to be strong and maybe that time gave him some time to imporve in his conditioning we will see.

That a boy Oden!!!

But don't quit your day job...because your karaoke skills are horrendous! Get ready for Oct 28th Lakers. Portland is coming to town.

Let's get it on!

I hope he becomes a good player; The league needs it. POR needs it.
I hate to see some kid get screwed due to injuries. Hope he stays healthy. POR already has serious injury issues, going to be a rough season

I think that Oden is going to be good for about half a year then be a bust.

Oden better be good....he is already number 3 or 4 in the league without playing a game....THAT becoz there are only 1 or 2 REAL 5 in the league (duncan is not a 5)

THEY HAVE A GOOD YOUNG TEAM I CAN C THEM PUSH FOR THE PLAYOFF WHEN THEY R ALL HEALTHY

September 16, 2008  12:17 PM ET

people are going to be expecting a lot from the blazers this year.

September 16, 2008  12:42 PM ET

That doesnt sound good that he still has some pain in those knees but the recovery period is probally long so hope he is fully healthy cuz Bynum is back BIGGER and STRONGER, and itll be a great matchup for years to come.

September 16, 2008  12:59 PM ET

The expectation on both Oden and Bynum are set pretty high, especially after their surgeries. Hopefully they can come back and play well for their respected teams. It'll be fun to watch two young players go at it.

Go Lakers!

Bynum has just as much to prove as Oden
Lets not consider them as wilt & russel just yet............

Oden is gonna be a BEAST! He's bigger & stronger mentally as a reult of his injury. I can't wait to see Oden face Horford again in a rematch from that NCAA finals game b/w his OSU team & the 2 time Champs at UF... Ditto for his game against Noah. I like the guy, and wish him well. Hopefully, he plays the whole year & shakes up the West in the process. I'm tired of hearing about the Spurs, Suns, & Jazz. Its all abouth the Hornets, Blazers, & Lakers....

September 16, 2008  01:09 PM ET

One thing for sure is: we will see a lot of great match-ups this season in the West. Oden will be playing against Yao, Shaq, some Duncan, Bynum, Chandler, some Camby. It'd be truly entertaining. Hope all stay healthy.

September 16, 2008  01:21 PM ET

I can't wait for Oct 28th so the Lakers can smash Oden on my birthday opening night.
