Heralded Va. Tech RB to redshirt

On Monday, Ryan Williams walked into the office of Billy Hite, Virginia Tech's associate head coach and running backs coach, as a heralded freshman fighting for playing time in a crowded backfield. He left Hite's office as a redshirt who will spend the season practicing with the scout team and gain a fifth year of eligibility with the Hokies. The Stonewall Jackson product arrived in Blacksburg as perhaps Virginia Tech's most heralded running back recruit since Kevin Jones. The Hokies' unsettled backfield led some to wonder whether he could play this season, a possibility Coach Frank Beamer raised during the recruiting process.

Good point. Tyrod's lasted a week. Way to panic there, Beamer.

The Huskers are gonna walk all over the Hokies.

As much as I hate to say it...I forsee this being a bad year for the Hokies. I'm going out on a limb that they finish the season 7-5 at best. Their worst record in decades. We have no passing game. The running game is limited to Tyrod Taylor. The defense is young and won't reach their peak this season. I think the 2009 season will be much better and we should be back to a BCS Bowl Game then. However, this season will be a bust.

How in the world could Tech lose 5 games?? To whom?? Look at the schedule! Lose to Duke? UVA? Miami? Western KY? Maryland?? Gosh, this IS going to be an excite year. Running game? Evans will have two 100+ yd games. So will Taylor.

Miami is going to crush the Hokies this year. As far as getting back to the BCs next year you'll have much tougher Miami and FSU teams to contend with not too mention Clemson. Good luck with that...........

Well it seems everybody is going to be better next year. As for the Hokies, I actually believe it. After all, it's much easier to believe that a young team will be better next year than two Florida teams trying to recapture glory days they haven't seen since Tim Tebow was in middle school.

The hokies are going 11-1 and everyone who is smart knows it Miami you are just sad cause you guys stink

Hey Hoche...I don't want them to lose. I was simply trying to be realistic though. We're 2 and 1 now, which means only 4 more losses to hit my 7 - 5 prediction. Here's the 4 games I think we could drop: upset by UNC this weekend, then beaten the following week by Nebraska. We'll win the next 2 (W Kentucky and Boston College)...but then we'll drop the other 2 of my 4 picks to Florida State and Maryland. I think 7 - 5 is ambitious actually.

This is a program on the rebuild, Tyrod should still be a redshirt as well.
