Rams coach on short leash

When Chip Rosenbloom took over the Rams franchise in January after the death of his mother, Georgia Frontiere, he made it clear that he wouldn't rush into things. He wanted to get the lay of the land; he wanted to avoid hasty judgments. But two lopsided, demoralizing losses into the 2008 season, Rosenbloom has put everyone on notice at Rams Park. "It is the job of the head coach, Scott Linehan, to figure out how to motivate and give some urgency to this team," Rosenbloom told the Post-Dispatch on Monday. "I believe in these players and I believe in this coach." "Things will get better," Rosenbloom said. "And if they don't, changes will be made." Rosenbloom declined to elaborate. In fact, he declined to comment any further. But the implication seemed clear. Linehan is on a short leash. If the team doesn't show marked improvement, it now seems possible that a coaching change could be made before the 2008 season ends.

BoBo thinks the Rams can't be a bad as the Lions.......or could they? Free face painting in the parking lot, 15 minutes.....

You have to give it more time it's only week 2, when we get to around like week 5 or so then you could let him go if the team dosen't get them self back in the race.

rams and bengals should play, loser has to play in the cfl for the 2009 season..with the CFL 2008 Grey Cup winner joining the NFL..

The only way this parity thing is going to work and teams like the rams have a chance is for the last team in each division to make a new division each year with the winner of that bracket to be automatically a play off team...lol...BRILLIANT.

50yearfan - Isn't that what the NHL did when they expanded in the 60's??

The Rams are horrible and Linehan should go. They shouldn't have brought him back this year in the first place. This isn't just about a team competing hard and failing to win games.....it's clear there is no enthusiasm at Rams Park, no belief in Linehan, and maybe most importantly, no direction or tangible plan to get them out of this.

A change is necessary.

TenRingsSTL..you are right, I think. NHL in the 60s.....Hmmmm?
The Rams have to clean house if they let the coach go. And that means the GM ......

September 17, 2008  11:40 AM ET

Lewis and Kiffen will still be the 1st ones to go

I say week 3 determines whos going and whos going to be watching the Playoffs/Superbowl on tv...

0-2 is fine, 0-3..well your getting on the high road to nowhere!

September 17, 2008  02:01 PM ET

It has already been determined that the Rams will watch the playoffs on TV.

Somehow, they managed to be mathematically eliminated during the preseason

September 17, 2008  04:08 PM ET

As a Rams fan, I think they should make a move IMMEDIATELY. Get Linehan and most of the front office (especially Jay Zygmunt) outta there... The NFC West is pretty lousy, and the Rams talent isn't that much below the Niners, Cardinals or even the Seahawks. 8-8 could win the division, and given the Rams soft schedule in the second half of the season, they could easily make it to 8-8 (despite an 0-2 or 0-3 start) with better people calling the shots.

Stories like this just go to show you there is no loyalty to coaches in this league

Uneasy lies the clown er crown. (Sorry BoBo.)

Rosenbloom is describing issues with the team culture, and that is absolutely the purview of the head coach. There's no one else to blame.

September 17, 2008  11:25 PM ET

He should be on no leash, as in fired.

September 17, 2008  11:45 PM ET

Hmmmmm............

This is a surprise??????????????

I have two words for ya...........Lane Kiffin.

As a season ticket holder of the last 12 years, 6 seats per year at a cost of $75.00 per seat, not including the PSL cost I expect to see more of an effort. I don't mind them losing but make a game out of it!! I am paying to be entertained, and the last few years I have not been getting my monies worth. We need changes and NOW!!

September 23, 2008  10:51 AM ET

Agreed, Football Mania. Linehan needs to go now......

September 23, 2008  05:18 PM ET

And now he benches Bulger. Yeah......Marc is the problem, Scott.....you just keep telling yourself that as the losses pile up.
