Reinsdorf: Gordon to stay with Bulls

After more than two months of negotiations -- and more than a month after Luol Deng was re-signed -- it doesn't seem the Bulls are any closer to reaching a deal with restricted free agent Ben Gordon than they were in July. General manager John Paxson didn't comment on the Gordon talks, but chairman Jerry Reinsdorf addressed the matter. ''It has to be resolved,'' Reinsdorf said Wednesday. ''You know, we have a business disagreement relating to the money, but he's still a Chicago Bull, and I expect him to play for the Bulls. I expect him to play hard, and I'd be surprised if it's anything other than that.''

Intersting situation.........One day he gone now he going to return...........

September 18, 2008  08:37 AM ET

Of course he's staying, there's not really anywhere for him to go. He needs to play solid off the bench this year to have grounds for relocation.

September 18, 2008  09:29 AM ET

all he can do is shoot...who cares where he goes, or what he does....

September 18, 2008  09:34 AM ET

What is gordon waiting for?
Obvioulsy there are no major offers coming in for a reason

Everyone understands that you can score- but are small and limited defensively
the type of player you are doesn't command big $ & big years.

You have to decide if you want to be a career journeyman- going to highest bidder
or a career 6th man who accepts a reasnable deal & wants to help a team win

Come on Bulls- time to get relivent again!

Yea.......Many thought the same. He wasnt going any where. But here on fictionnation.com they had going to the Heat, europe................

But the way this story is written its still complex problem.

Why would you expect him to play hard and help the team like a happy camper? He does not want to be there so you should let him stay home... yes he is not that good, yes he is asking for more than he is worth... yes Reinsdorf pay that.. neither will the Memphis... but the bottom line is HE IS A DISGRUNTLED EMPLOYEE... but since he can't be fired... he needs to stay home... the bulls are better off without him...

Sign-and Trade him to someone that needs a scoring gaurd, and cut your losses, get something in return while you can. The bridge between Ben and ChiTown has been long broken, and its a futureless relationship at the moment

September 18, 2008  11:16 AM ET

The Bulls will find a way to trade him before March. Gordon scores 19 points in 32 minutes with 41% from the 3-point lane. Projected over 40 minutes, that's over 23 points a game.

he's a pure scoring play, like Kevin Martin from Sacramento (11 millions a year). Ben Gordon deserves his 10 millions. But not more.

He will find a home. It's just a matter of finding a team that underperforms in 2009 and is ready to give up one of its good player in return (Like Memphis and Pau Gasol did last year).

The problem is that the Bulls would trade him only against an interior, and there are not many teams now ready to part with a good center or power forward. Last year should have been the Bulls year with Garnett and Gasol available for a trade.

Now, only Zach Randolph is available!

this guy gave up, what was it, $10 mil a year? he should fire his agent if he hasn't already.. he is not a very good basketball player and he is too inconsistant a shooter to get more than $10 mil a year.. i think he is a mid-level player at best... he's just a glorified dajuan wagner and look where that guy is now?

September 18, 2008  12:06 PM ET

expectations are different than truth. People expected Gilbert to be playing next season, now he is out for a month... again

Come on now....
the guy has averaged 20 points inthe league....mid level guys don't do that for a whole season.....and his CAREER average is 18 pts- that's pretty damn good. The problem is he is little and plays no D.

I agree he isn't a top tier talent and should not be earning over 10 mil per.....
but to say he's not a player is silly.

On the right team that needs some back-court scoring and has front court defenders....
say an Orlando or Toronto- him coming off the bench would be a HUGE asset

Come vote for the 3rd Fannation All Star team

I would take any inconsistent shooter that's shooting 41% from the 3-point line! (142-346 from the 3-point line over the season, that's almost 5 shots per game)

September 18, 2008  01:24 PM ET

MONEY HUNGRY... YOU STAY AND JUST SHOOT THE DAMN BALL!!!

Bulls have all the power. Its up to Gordon to take the offer or leave it.

ok maybe i was being a bit hard on the guy.. but that is probably because i don't agree with players demanding close to max money and only being able to contribute to one aspect of the game.. if you get gordon on your team you adress on thing, scoring... he can't play the point, he's two small to guard the two guards.. i dunno am i missing something here? i agree with you 1oo% when you say he should come off the bench a la vinnie johnson.. but on a team like toronto or orlando his touches would be limited, do you think he'd be happy about that? i don't.. also would you really wanna pay a guy coming off the bench $10 mil? i dunno man, thats a bit much.. but your right i was too hard on him he is way better than dejuan wagner.. sorry bulls fans!

September 18, 2008  02:55 PM ET

Although Ben said that he played his last game as a Bull, he has nowhere to go. The only team with cap room to sign him outright is Memphis and they do not need him.

Also, it's not like teams are beating down the Bulls' door for a sign and trade so he's stuck in Chi-Town.

September 18, 2008  02:58 PM ET

Maybe Gordon will come out swinging and lead the team in scoring and thus justifying his demands for $10 mil/season like he thinks he is worth.

Oh wait...he's done that already and still no one thinks a 6'-3" SG is worth that kind of money???

Better have a Plan B, Gordon.
