Why Senators will pass on Schneider

The Senators will be taking a pass on Mathieu Schneider. While Senators GM Bryan Murray is interested in the Anaheim Ducks defenseman, he said the club simply can't afford his $5.5 million ticket for this season. Yes, the Senators want a puck-moving defenseman and Murray has been scouring the market, but he'd like to see what players step up in training camp before becoming active again.

Me thinks unless Schneider's salary drops, he may not play this year. I still think the Kings are his best shot, but their GM may hold back on signing him to keep Anaheimm over the cap.

Could it possibly be 2 days in a row without mention of a certain bald captain?

Anaheim has to pay him no matter what...he'll play.

He passed through waivers. It'll now cost a friendlier 2 million and some change for this guy on re-entry. He STILL doesnt want him at 2 and some change? If i was my GM,i'd be all over that guy (no,not in that way).

Why Senators will pass on Schneider.

Cause he has talent?

I agree

September 18, 2008  11:12 AM ET

He'd atually be a good fit for a team with a young defence, if he weren't so greedy

Hey spiny if someone offerd you 5 mil. plus to write article would you turn it down or say: no I'm not worth that much just give me 1.2 mil.

Someone will take him... good call on LA not picking him up (yet); I'm sure they want to see Anaheim squirm with cap issues for awhile. What about St. Louis or Phoenix? They have some cap room (I believe) and could use a good puck-moving defenseman...

As the kids say today, I'm a bit "old school" I wouldn't take it.
I've never asked for or taken anything I haven't earned. (or couldn't earn)
You can believe this or not, but it is true, (much to my wife's dismay)
Now offer me that to play on a record or in a band? No sweat...it's what I do best.

He's too expensive! Now .... on re-entry .... !

It'd be nice if Kevin Lowe picked Schneider up on re-entry and make Burke pay half his wages ...... just to p*iss him off! I like seeing Burke squirming and crying!

They have to pay him, yes. But they can't put him on the active roster otherwise the fat dumb midget commisioner will fine them (so he can create teams in Europe with the money!).

Yes, DC. I was thinking re-entry too (hal-off, yeah!!!). But is there such a possibility if the player has been waived in the off-season... Just asking!
