Did Huskies get back at OU's Granger?

Did retaliation by Washington offensive linemen cost Oklahoma the service of defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger, who is out for at least a month because of torn ligaments in his foot? Late in the second quarter of the Sooners' 55-14 victory at Washington last weekend, Granger was penalized for a personal foul for shoving a Huskies offensive lineman after the whistle was blown. On the next play, Granger was triple teamed. He had to be helped off the field and returned on crutches. Sooners coach Bob Stoops, during his weekly meetings with reporters, didn't point fingers at Washington.

He was triple teamed, that means if each guy was about 280lbs, he was up against 840lbs. That doesn't sound like retaliation, just alot of lbs to try & move. Maybe he pushed off wrong & did it to himself?

looked like payback to me on the replay

September 19, 2008  10:57 AM ET

Yeah if you look at the film the two guys are punching granger.

Yeah...right. I'm sure it happens alot more than we know.

Hey it's his own fault, don't do stupid stuff like shove somebody after the whistle. A team like washington, sure they were frustrated and weren't gonna take anymore crap.

September 19, 2008  11:15 AM ET

Intentionally hurt a guy just because he shoved you on a football field?? C'mon.... those guys were intentionally trying to hurt him..... they should be suspended.

September 19, 2008  11:17 AM ET

Of course it was retaliation - does any running or passing play call for triple teaming of one defensive lineman. The refs should have tossed all three Huskie players. It is hard enough to not get injured on regular plays let alone when three huge lineman are laying on top of you - not just blocking but physically on top of you. Extremely poor sportsmanship from the Washington Huskies and their coaching staff.

Of course it was retaliation, and frustration, and poor sportsmanship. All three offensive lineman played pretty pathetic but does it take three to block one defensive lineman, well not block exactly but knock down to the ground and all three dog pile on top. Most plays have you block someone and then move on and help block someone else - I guess Washington does things differently. It is so easy to get hurt on any play but when three huge crybaby lineman flop down on top of you when you are down and you get hurt because of that. All three lineman should be disciplined and should have been tossed from the game. I doubt that the coaches had anything to do with it - but only the Huskies know for sure.

Murdoc is 100% right. They really should suspend those guys. Shoving is one thing, but two guys on top of him throwing punches? That is just wrong.

September 19, 2008  11:29 AM ET

I didnt see the game were the players flagged for the play?? If they were then they should have been ejected from the game.

September 19, 2008  11:40 AM ET

Maybe they should have been more concerned with moving the football rather than pushing around Granger...

They were concerned about moving the footabll, they just couldn't get the OU defense to cooperate with them.

Are you sooner fans so completely deluded that you can't see that Granger "had it comin'"? If Granger hadn't unnecessarily lit up that Washington lineman, he'd probably be A-Ok today. Stoops didn't call out the Washington organization either - you think perhaps there's a reason for that??? It's because Stoops 'gets it'.

And considering how the ou team made **** of themselves in the ramp before the game by messing with the Washington team trying to get onto the field, the real classless organization here is certainly ou. Seriously, ou fans, your team looked like a bunch of punks out there.

Paybacks happen in Football. Granger had it comin'. Get over it.

the UW players had no actions taken against them by Willingham for the punches thrown?

September 19, 2008  12:12 PM ET

Instant karma. Don't want to get triple-teamed? Don't late-hit a guy.

That said, from the video, it doesn't look like the Huskies did anything to specifically cause Granger's foot injury. They just triple-teamed him and pancaked him (and rained punches down on him). If only the Huskies' O-line could protect Jake Locker so well...

September 19, 2008  12:38 PM ET

the ramp incident wasnt either team's fault, it was just bad timing and the people in front were getting pushed against each other from the rest of the team behind them. Of course something will happen when your confined to that small of space and people pushing on you from all sides. I'd probably snap as well

September 19, 2008  12:42 PM ET

and im sure the late hit was provoked just like the tripple team was provoked. thing is, football players are taught to beat the hell out of each other everyday. So, when someone gets a cheap shot while nobody is looking, you have to know its comin back at them in some way. its football, it happens, people get hurt, big frickin whop. props to stoops and the sooner organization for handling it like men

September 19, 2008  12:44 PM ET

Had it coming? Hardly... On the play when Granger was penalized, it's not like he pile drivered the dude. He pushed him down--intentionally or not.

If they wanted to get back at him...hey fine. Go smashmouth and pound him standing up, not 3 man tackle then sucker punch.

Although, I too wonder from the video how his foot was injured.
And I'm not sure whether this is 4-5 weeks or season ending--would like to know.

I talked to all 3 guys who were on the O-Line for UofW, and they were PO'ed and yes, they retaliated...100%...I have them on record, admitting it.
