Alabama chasing Auburn recruit

It's an all-out recruiting war between Auburn and Alabama for Douglass linebacker Jonathan Atchinson. Atchinson narrowly committed to Auburn over Alabama, but the Crimson Tide has not given up. In fact, Alabama has intensified efforts to lure Atchinson away from its archrival. Alabama assistant Lance Thompson showed up at Douglass last Friday to meet with Douglass coaches, and hung around to observe Atchinson for the team's win over Washington.

If you don't live in the state of Alabama, which I do not either, you may not realize how huge of a story this is to the folks who root for 'Bama or Auburn. I had a friend who went to college in that state and he has always testified, no two CFB fanbases are as passionate, dedicated, and out of their minds 365 days a year about the Tide and/or the Tigers and the hatred for one another.

Does Fannation have anything else to post up about, besides BAMA this BAMA that, SABAN this, SABAN that. Who cares its recruiting, where alot of backstabing illegal things go on. Its becoming pathetic, just let the kids pick where they want to go to. Stop forcing them, and feeding them false info. Stop tossing money in there face, thats why when they get drafted they are like give me more money, I made more than this in college. Let the kid choose where he wants to go, SABAN has that kid so scared right now. BAMA is like the MAFIA of recruiting. The Crips of CFB, Kid theres only one way in, and one way out, HA. By the way good luck AUBURN in our game this weekend.

poor domepatrol.. Still sore over losing your head coach. Don't get on a coach for doing his job. College football is recruiting plain and simple. I would be upset too now, that you are going to have to start playing with Less Miles recruits.. May just have to get use to the fact that soon Saban will be pulling all your good recruits from La to Alabama. My advice would be get your ole brown bag out and dust it off and turn your full support to the Saints! They are playing well this year...

September 19, 2008  11:38 AM ET

BAMA lost to University of Louisiana Monroe, thats your BAMA joke of the day.

Domepatrol:

ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!! Jaded ex! ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!

September 19, 2008  12:32 PM ET

Domepatrol - You obvisously don't understand the competition for talent in the SEC. When you have two Top 10 schools who are in the same conference vying for the same home grown talent, recruiting is a huge deal. And when you have to compete against a shady character like Saban, you want the media looking over his shoulder every day!

September 19, 2008  01:46 PM ET

There is nothing shady about Saban! I dont understand why yall losers cant just recruit better instead of goin duck hunting right in the middle of the biggest time for recruiting!! Quit whining do a better job and quit making accusations that have never been backed up with facts!! Both LSU and Auburn have had Bama's number the last few years so enjoy it and we'll see you in November!! Roll Tide!!

ps. Dome patrol is a choad!!!!

September 19, 2008  02:37 PM ET

I'd guess Monday would be a GREAT day to give the guy a followup call, as the Auburn nation will be having a collective meltdown over their offensive woes. Never mind they are playing against a great LSU defense. They will be calling for someone's head, which will feed right into Alabama's recruiting goals. If you are outside the state of Alabama you can't imagine how paranoid Auburn fans are right now about the (real) possibility of a return to the 60s and 70s domination by Alabama in the state after (1)Saban's Tide absolutely swept the recruiting for the state last year and (2)the state of Georgia, a traditional Auburn recruiting ground, is being more effectively recruited by it's own state schools. Alabama fans aren't helping the matter either, with their "of course we'll be a national power again" attitude despite recent problems. The fact that it is actually happening is more than the Auburn faithful can "bear".

September 19, 2008  02:51 PM ET

Kevin 4ua, at least I am a good choad. Pretty good comment for you're first on FN.

September 19, 2008  03:44 PM ET

Shady......Recruiting? Synonyms I believe. For anyone to think that talent is amassed at any one university by any other means than shady ones is totally ignorant. Auburn, LSU, Georgia,...etc. ADMIT IT! We're better at it than you are! Just clearing space on the mantle for all those SEC championships while yall are whining about how we steal your recruits. WAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

Love it.

Don't forget the LSU corndogs. LSU just won the national title and they are still steaming about Saban! GET A GRIP ALREADY!

September 20, 2008  04:54 PM ET

Did y'all see what Bama did to the Hogs! Sheezis!!

I, for 1 LSU fan, do not harbor any ill will towards the Nickster. I don't blame him @ all. Think about it. Shot @ coaching in the NFL, a raise, and the possibility of turning a program around and getting a Superbowl ring. It happened before, it'll happen again. You need a head exam to not jump @ that.

I wonder what Ole Miss fans think of Tuberville.

Ok, Bammers. Who are you reeaalllllly rooting for tonight?

(And Tenn? ****, over? I hope it's a better 2nd 1/2.)

September 20, 2008  04:56 PM ET

^^^ no more acronyms? Wow.

September 20, 2008  06:20 PM ET

Speaking of the AJC. A UK WildCat sent me an article about who has the worst fans in the SEC.

Check out the fan comments on that. Quite the captivating read.

You hit the nail right on the head. LSU fans just cant let it go. You had him, you couldnt keep him, now we have him. Chapter finished, now less move on shale we. It is true, you did win a national title last year, even though you had 2 loses. That just shows the strength of the SEC.

Its weird how you accuse Saban of illegal recruiting activities. Whats really weird is i didn't hear anything about this from LSU fans when he was at LSU.....weird.

September 22, 2008  04:48 AM ET

By the way good win over auburn loved it.

The red flags are flying........watch out for the rising Crimson Tide.Roll Tide

Isn't this about a recruit? Seems that the non-Bama fans have digressed off topic. It's about recruiting, doing what a coach and a team are supposed to do. It's about aggressively going after talent even if that means getting a recruit to change their mind. There is nothing shady about it. How many recruits jump ship when they see a team that has been successful, have a bad year? Any that are serious about a career in football beyond college. It's about going somewhere that you can shine, get TV time and get noticed by the national press.

Saban is aggressively going after both in state and out of state talent and I think that is what scares Georgia and LSU fans. Richt from Georgia was upset that the Clemson/ Alabama game was in Atlanta, all because of recruiting. And it looks like it is going to happen again next year with Bama playing Virginia Tech in Atlanta for the season opener. Again, all for recruiting those top Georgia prospects.
