Starbury would welcome Kobe

Stephon Marbury opened his arms to Kobe Bryant becoming a Knick. It is believed the Lakers would ship Bryant to the Eastern Conference, and the Bulls and Knicks appear to be his preferences. Isiah Thomas said he will keep Eddy Curry out of any offer, but David Lee, Channing Frye and Jamal Crawford would be on the table.

here's a 3 team trade that works
LA gets ricky davis, zaza pachulia, joe johnson and the 9th pick
Min gets Josh Smith, Kwame Brown, Speedy Claxton, Lorenzen Wright, Marvin Williams and the 3rd pick
Atl gets Kobe and KG.
LA has a solid starting 5 of johnson, davis, walton, odom, and bynum. which can have them sneak into the playoffs, like they do now.
Min puts together a good young team that should compete in 2 years with foye, mcants, smith, williams, and whoever they pick this year at 3.
Atl can team up kobe and KG, along with childress, sheldom williams, and Law(who they would pick with the 11th) to run the point for them. This would make the Hawks instant Contenders in the east and give kobe and kg their best chance a) to play together and b) reach the finals

Kobe would fit in NY, only if Kobe realizes that he won't be the main man on the floor- no Knicks-wearing jersey player is- its the coach and his ego. Once Kobe realizes that, and accepts it, he will fit right in. There is no doubt why Marbury would open his arms- anyone would.

I hope Kobe goes to a team that cannot make the play-offs. I wonder if this jerk now realizes how great Shaquille O'Neil was as a player and teammate. Hey superstar, "Not so easy to win championships without the big guy, huh?" If Kobe was as great as everybody says, the Lakers would have won it all, and not the Spurs.....ha!

June 17, 2007  10:51 AM ET

Hey Shaq, not so easy to win a championship without an amazing wing player to carry you. Or how about a loaded team, with the best back up center in the NBA and a cast of savvy veterans and a great coach in the depleted East. Not to say Shaq's not great, but he's got to thank Kobe for his rings just as much as Kobe's gotta thank him.

i love these slugs that keep getting mentioned for Kobe from the Knicks...too funny...what....no Nate Robinson????

June 17, 2007  10:57 AM ET

Please keep Kobe out of NY! The hype would be unbearable!

Trading David Lee would be a huge mistake for the Knicks (though it would be great for Lee). He's the kind of scrappy role player that the Knicks have lacked for too long.

June 17, 2007  11:13 AM ET

Ain't going to happen. 100 Knick rejects aren't worth Bryant. The Knicks have nothing to trade.

June 17, 2007  11:15 AM ET

David Lee is great and I wouldn't want him to be included in a trade for KG or JO, but Kobe is a whole different story. The Knicks need an explosive scorer to complement Curry and Kobe fits the bill. Mamba went to Spain to reiterate his desire to be traded and the Knicks, Bulls and Suns were on his wish list. The Lakers will not trade him to the Suns because they are in the same conference. The Bulls could make a more attractive offer than the Knicks, but would Paxson really want to ship off Deng or any of their other young stars? The team is young and on the verge of great things, in other words, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." The Knicks will trade Lee, Crawford, Frye and the draft pick. NY wins a championship. Haters everywhere unite and NY is a dominant team again.

June 17, 2007  11:18 AM ET

DO NOT TRADE D. LEE!!!!!

June 17, 2007  11:18 AM ET

Lee, Crawford, Frye and the draft pick aren't worth a bag of chips, much less Kobe Bryant.

June 17, 2007  11:20 AM ET

Marbury is garbage who cares what he would welcome. He is a Cancer.

June 17, 2007  11:28 AM ET

Just Another Attention Grabber which is upon inspection Pure Lint !

I know the Finals this year were the lowest rating in history, but can't they think of some other way to boost interest in the NBA besides all these UFO sightings ?

There are, and Count them, FOUR fake Kobe stories on the front page of S.I. com....

This is sad....

June 17, 2007  11:41 AM ET

i love it when the haters post..they take kobe so personal its as if they really knew the guy...frikkin losers..hahahahaha

June 17, 2007  11:47 AM ET

Of course he would welcome KOBE.You'd have to be a 100% idiot not to!Marburry is only a 50% idiot.

June 17, 2007  11:53 AM ET

Kobe and Curry would be a very good fit but they would need some help and where would that come from. Kobe presence would probably elevate Marbury's game but i think they would need help from the bench. Still this team could create problems both for the East and West. Very powerful squad if it happens.

June 17, 2007  12:00 PM ET

If we did consider trade with NY, I say we insist on getting Eddie Curry just for general purposes. When a team won't give up a player for the best in the league...force them or don't deal with them. Remember what happened with Miami? Riley got the best player in the league and would not give up Wade...and they won a championship. Sooo...insist on Eddie Curry also.

June 17, 2007  12:08 PM ET

What is up with New York papers and always making up dumb trade scenarios where the other team gets 10 cents to a dollar?

If I'm the Lakers, I'm sure I would love to trade for a combination of any of New York's stable of undersized power forwards and shoot-first, selfish point guards who can't run a team and play defense. And I'm sure Kobe would flourish on a team of point guards who can't get him the ball. And if they're making Kobe handle the ball, all their point guards are basically shooting guards with crappy FG%.

Seriously, Shaq for Odom/Butler is a better trade than that proposed. The Knicks can reach the championship in the East just like LeBron and his scrub collection made it because that's what the Knicks with Kobe will be.

June 17, 2007  12:09 PM ET

Please...not even Kobe could help NY. He'll end up either going to Chicago or staying in LA.

June 17, 2007  12:12 PM ET

I love it when someone posts, crying about the haters....like they even knew us...frikkin losers..hahahahaha!

kobe is not going anywhere. kobe is getting help this summer by getting jermaine oneal or kevin garnett. the lakers will be in contention next year.
