Whispers: Is Marvin Harrison done?

Is Marvin Harrison done? Or at least reaching the point where he can see the finish line from his front porch? I still think it's way too early to write the epitaph on a Hall of Fame receiving career. But the whispers are starting. And the longer Harrison goes without having that Marvin-like breakout game, the louder the whispers will become, ultimately turning into howls. In the season opener against the Chicago Bears, Harrison had a relatively productive night, catching eight passes for 76 yards, but he lost a fumble that the Bears returned for a touchdown. In the victory over Minnesota, he had just one catch for 16 yards, although that one reception was an important one in the red zone.

Slowly sinking into mediocrity, but not done yet.

Well, after the years of uber production he's had, I think it's time that his body catches up with him. I find it amazing that a WR as small as he is has produced at such huge levels for so many years. I never thought he could continue until last year when got hurt bad enough to make a difference.

With all the talent around him, Marvin should be able to protect himself for another few years while still catching 50 or so. Heck, maybe another championship. You never know.

I'm still happy I have his rookie card, lol.

September 19, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Perhaps not. But Reggie Wayne has certainly assumed the mantle of the go-to guy.

great, and you're on MY FF team ?
you is benched... today.

At 36 years old, Harrison may not be the receiver he once was, but he doesn't have to be. With Wayne, Gonzales, and Dallas Clark, Harrison is still a weapon.

Marvin will keep catching them until he is ready to move on. We hope it will be a few more years though.
God Bless America and Our Troops !!

It happens I hate to say it, Marvin Harrison better days are gone,
For those of you who caught the game,
Not fast, couldnt break, jerk free to get open,
something is wrong, also think off season troubles.
Reggie Wayne, and #11 Gonzales? Make a greak match, tag team.

I feared Marvin was done with the injury last season.. He will still be productive but will never get back to the high level of play we have become acustomed to.

September 19, 2008  09:54 AM ET

He doesn't have as many miles left as Isaac Bruce.

He isn't done but he's well cooked.

September 19, 2008  09:55 AM ET

I think he's lost a step. He will never be what he once was but he can still act as a decoy.

September 19, 2008  10:18 AM ET

He'll be playing for the Raiders next year.....

I think he needs to be a little older and suck just a tad more before Al will sign him.

September 19, 2008  10:33 AM ET

its not like he can play at the same level forever...plus you have to realize...he had missed 11 games last season and ontop of peyton missing all the preseason games. that was their first game back together id say it was pretty productive to say the least...

September 19, 2008  10:53 AM ET

It's way too premature to say so.
1- the young Harrison did not dominate every game he's played.
2- he's coming back from a very serious injury and did not practice with his QB during pre-season
3- the whole offensive line was missing which seriously cut the amount of time a receiver has to get open
4- yes, he's had an ordinary start, but so did Chad Johnson and Braylon Edwards. Are THEY finished?

I'm not saying the guy isn't done but let's wait a little before burying him.

September 19, 2008  11:21 AM ET

It's early in the season. I doubt he'll ever be told old Marvin Harrison. But he can still be productive. That offense has alot of weapons..

I don't know the Raiders like that 'thug' element.........what ever happened with that gun charge revolving around that shooting in Philly? At the car wash baby............j/k I like MarHar but he's fading into oblivion.

Everyone who lives in Philly gets shot at, at least once. No harm no foul.
