Brewers-Giants trade brewing?
We may be in the heat of the pennant races, but the Giants' hot stove talk appears to be on fire. A lingering rumor was given new life Wednesday night. ESPN's Peter Gammons said the Giants could trade starting pitcher Matt Cain, 23, to the Brewers for first baseman Prince Fielder, 24, shortstop J.J. Hardy, 26, and another player. He didn't cite his source.

You sure Gammons wasn't talking about his fantasy baseball league? That sounds unbelievable, trading two All-Star sluggers for a guy who pitches every fifth day... and, like any pitcher, is always just one pitch away from a visit to Dr. Jobe or Dr. Andrews.

Matt Cain is a tough pitcher with good stuff, but no way they trade just him for Prince and Hardy............ this makes no sense

last three years:
Matt cain, 23 yr old, 190, 200, and 204 total innings pitched each of the years, career 3.91 total ERA, not bad. The prince power numbers, 28 , 50, and now what 32? rbi 81, 119, 94. J Harding, 26 HR in 07, 24 so far this year, 277/283 BA. Who is the other player Peter? These three for one, alittle lopsided. Matt's a good shot for pitching or replacing CC after the season?
I better go back and read the rest of this article, sounds interesting.

Gammons = Dictionary DEFINITION
Gammon can mean
A particular cut of bacon or ham (from an Old Northern French word for hind- leg of the pig or ham) - processed pork product
In other words Pork Butt ... Just like most of what comes out of this Cough , Espn, Hall of Fame
Mouth.

Wait...Gammons was talking about something other than the boston red sox?! Also, that's a dumb trade that makes ZERO point ZERO sense.

That trade is way lopsided, I mean with Fielder's girth thrown in the mix, you're talking an extra 600 lbs. going to the Bay. Why would Frisco ever agree to taking on that much dead weight?

I didn't realize Cain is that good to even be mentioned in these farfetched trade rumors.

Good trade for SF, bad trade for Milwaukee, Cain isn't worth 2 everyday players plus one.

I love everyone here that rips the rumor without even thinking or knowing what they are talking about. If something comes from Gammons there is probably at least some truth. He's extremely well respected and should be listened to.
Here's a few things to think about with this rumor:
Matt Cain is a possible superstar pitcher who is extremely young. The Brewers will lose both Sheets and Sabathia after this year and have Gallardo (great pitcher) coming off a major injury. They have to get another pitcher unless they want to rely on Gallardo, Dave Bush, Manny Parra, and two mystery men next year (Charlie V.?), and Cain would be an excellent addition.
Fielder would be a big loss, don't get me wrong. But he also wants huge money, that the Brewers are not likely to give him. Braun made it possible Fielder could be signed by signing for way under market value, but Fielder doesn't seem like the discount type. A Cain for Fielder trade straight up would actually be pretty smart for both teams.
Adding Hardy and another player is also a good move for the Brewers. I realize Brewers fans love Hardy (I lived there the last three years), but he is overrated. He has one or two great months a season and sucks the rest. I've seen the arbitration presentation the team had set up for him a couple years ago and even they came up with 40 reasons he was the worst starting shortstop in the NL. They has Escobar ready to come up and take over SS and be the leadoff hitter Rickie Weeks has proven he can't be. That way you shed Hardy's salary and find a 1B bat on the cheap or even move Braun to first or see what Gammel can do.
While I only give this trade about a 10% chance of happening, it's not as bad as everyone here seems to think it is. Milwaukee is a small market team that needs to build from their farm system in a way similar to Oakland. They are still loaded with prospects after the loss of LaPorta, and this is the kind of talent-now for opportunity/potential trade they have to make every once in awhile.

TheAG is right, there is no way Fielder is going to take a low ball offer. He is going for the big big bucks. He is selfish in nature to begin with, and if he doesn't rape the Brewers, he'll get the money somewhere else!
The again, Sa FRansisco would be a great place for an admitted vegetarian like Fielder (LOL)

This trade would be great for both clubs, even though I think the Giants are giving up more than Brewers. Matt Cain is DOMINATE!! SOLID!! He is AN ACE!! If it werent because he gets no run support he would probably be up for the Cy Young award up there with Lincecum!
Brewers get the better hand on this one.

I personally think the loss of Fielder would be a gain for the Brewers. I think they may send Fielder +1 or Hart +1. I highly doubt they would send both +1.
