Buckeyes backfield a mystery
Ohio State still does not have its starting running back or a confirmed starting quarterback. In one breath, OSU coach Jim Tressel said that running back Beanie Wells is improving but he is also out for Saturday's game against Troy and there's no guarantee that he'll play against Minnesota the following week. Wells practiced Wednesday for the second straight day, and Tressel said that practice was much better than a week ago when he tried to go two consecutive days but his injured right foot was too sore. There's no doubt, though, that the injury is becoming more troubling as it lingers. It went from a general expectation 10 days ago that he'd be ready for USC, to missing the biggest regular season game of the year, to now sitting out the one following it and possibly more after that. Even if Wells was demanding to play, his practice performance would be preventing that from happening. As for his quarterbacks, freshman Terrelle Pryor has taken about 60 percent of the snaps in practice this week ahead of former senior starter Todd Boeckman. That was the plan Tressel laid out Tuesday, and he still expects them to share the snaps equally on Saturday. Which player starts could be determined by what type of plays Tressel wants to run first against Troy.

I think OSU can find satisfaction that they're playing Troy this week and give Beanie more time to heal

Its amazing how quick Cbus will turn on the team, one loss, at bad one at that and this town is ready to fold shop. I know the NC is gone, but history can still be made by winning a better Big 10 this year. Get Pryor in there, let Beanie get better, make Boom the featured back and run the Troy Smith style spread with those two....

The Buckeyes misery...I mean mystery, starts with Tressell. He makes the decisions so I guess[no pun] he likes the guessing game. I, like many others, expect Pryor to be full time in the very near future to pursue the BTC. Your're right 84...this says alot about SOME of your fans.

It happened in 03 and 05, when things dont go as planned here, people bail. In a way its more fun to watch the games then, because you kow you're around real fans. Not just the ones who think its fashionable to cheer for the Bucks. There have been down times before and this may not be the last this year, but hey with all this crap it will just makes it sweeter when the Bucks do turn the corner!

I haven't seen too much turning on the team per se., although some (including myself) think there are coaching-related issues that need to be addressed. I HAVE seen a bit more apathy from some fans, but like you say 84, you can tell who the real ones are then.
I personally believe the silver lining to the cloud will be increased accountability for adaptability in coaching, play calling, etc., and I think we'll be the better for it. While I'm disappointed the NC seems gone, I too think it would be fantastic to win the B10 again, and I also believe the B10 is going to be stronger than people think this year. In fact, I think we could have stiff challenges not only from Penn State and Wiscy but from Illinois and Purdue as well. Maybe we'll even be able to get an SEC team in a bowl and get THAT monkey off our backs!
Good luck to you and your teams tomorrow...should be some good games to watch!

Far from having given up, I am now more motivated to watch every game. I would love to see them win the Big Ten Championship and go to the Rose Bowl. My guess is that USC will falter against one of their lowly PAC 10 teams (or perhaps an even lowlier Notre Dame?) and be force into a rematch with a chastened Buckeye team, with Beanie Wells, Tod Boeckman, and Terelle Pryor in the backfield. Boeckman (or any drop-back passer) is useless without Wells in the backfield (as USC proved), but he is a good player when the threat of the run is imminent.

Tressel will not pull Boeckman for Pryor completely out of the line up this year. It is not his ???style???. This year reminds me allot of the Zwick and Smith combo (I think that was 2005). Tressel kept putting Zwick in even though the team responded better to Smith in the line up. This year it seems that the team responds better to Pryor in the line up over Boeckman.
Until Beanie is back in the line up the offense is too one demtional with Boeckman playing. D Lines will just pin their ears back to put pressure Boeckman. And we know what Boeckman does under pressure. Turn the ball over.

Wow, look how far OSU has fallen after one loss to the #1 team. I don't know what's more catastrophic, the greatest Wall Street Scandal since the 30s or the complete meltdown of Sucknut fans. The satellites in the sky can even see the fires burning in ColumbASS.
Wonder what will happen if Troy beats OSU?

Thanks for the reassurance guys, its been a long week, huh..
I want to see a motivated team out there playing tomorrow, maybe some of the youth that is being forced into the O-line and the fact Booone finally spoke up will help. The Big 10 is alot better this year. PSU and Wisco are gonna be great games! Here's to pulling it together and finishing strong like the 05 team did!

We will revert back to the late 90's when rioting and burning couches in the streets was the norm after a loss, LOL

"84" that sucks that Columbus doesn't fully back OSU year in and year out, I mean fair-weather fans are usually fans of teams that rarely perform -- OSU has had a pretty nice last decade in terms of winning percentage and they have a national championship too. As a Michigan fan that wacthes every UofM game (they are quite tough to stomach as of late), I empathize with your commitment to your team. I also want to see EVERYONE in the Big Ten do as well as they can, because it's a conference thing............something the wonks at Notre Dame will never understand.

I would say that Columbus as a whole is a Buckeye town, everyone is a "fan" of OSU, but when hard times hit like the past few months, some of those so-called "fans", get angry and write off the team. Not to sell the fan-base short, the ones who are true and there are a ton of them here are loyal to the end. It's just the past couple years its been in style to be a Buckeye football fan, Lord knows we'll never turn down a fan, but its disappointing to lose fans when you lose a game...

The thing is about UM, if you know football you can see potential there, they just need to pull it together, ND was a joke of a game. Once RR gets comfy in AA, you'll be fine. McGuffy is a stud and looks alot like the backs RR used at WVU, give it a few more weeks the tide will turn...

84,
While one might be tempted to write that JT is starting to morph into LC, it's only one loss and it was to the #1 team in the nation. OSU is loaded with talent and this is a test of the coaching staff to get the team back on track. Big 10 play hasn't started yet for OSU and that's where OSU can get back into form. Heck, if OSU runs the table in the Big 10, there is a good chance OSU could meet USC in the Rose Bowl should USC stumble and lose a game. Now, how exciting would that be?

I am definetely NOT a fair weather fan. I still love the bucks and im excited to watch the rest of this season unfold. The upcoming games against Wis and penn st should make for great football games. I hope Beanie heals in time. And I am very excited about pryor playing. Watch out for him in a few years, the kid will be dangerous.

Give Pryor a run throught the Big 10 and a healthy Beanie, throw in some Boom. Hope defense gets off the plane and I would be all for that. I think its going happen BTW, maybe not USC, but I do think they will rebound to run the table. Still has a 1969 feel with RR up there in AA though

No amount of losses will make me and many other OSU fans, I am sure, look away and forget my team. But i do have to say that the game against usc did dissappoint and upset me and this for the reason that the bucks seemed all too conten with the conventional play, relying on it almost completely against a team that is uncanny in reading the opposition's DNA. I have not prsonally come across any osu deserters but I think we all share the opinion that for osu to succeed the coaches will have to know how to take more risks, work at the psychology of the game and find creative ways with which to travel against the opposition's expectation of you. Go Bucks.
