Inside Royals clubhouse tension

Trey Hillman is trying. Oh, there've been plenty of problems with the Royals this season that may or may not delay/cancel a Royals' emergence under the current leadership. Hillman has been cited as a significant part of those problems, because he's the manager, and also because of a feeling that he's losing/lost the clubhouse. One of the main things you hear from some is that there's been one set of rules for Jose Guillen, and another for everyone else. Well, in the last few weeks, maybe longer, Hillman has been a different guy. Then comes last night, when Guillen was in the original lineup, batting third and playing right field. Shortly before the first pitch, the Royals announced a different lineup, one that didn't include Guillen. That's just the eighth game he's missed all season. Royals' media relations never announced a reason for Guillen being scratched, because they never heard one. After the game, Hillman sure seemed to hint at some Guillen drama. "I just made a late managerial decision to not play him," Hillman said.

I am from KC and grew up loving the Royals. I am 25 years old and am sad to say that I remember only one winning season (2003). Before you beat up on our team too bad, please remember that the fans have been held hostage by their cheap owner. Mr. Always Low Prices, Always, former Walmart President David Glass grew up a die hard Cardinals fan and is cheap. I noticed Yankee fan chirped in... How would you like it if a Mets fan bought your team and didn't spend any money for talent & ran the team like Walmart. Its terrible here. Do you think we like being the butt of jokes? We used to be a respectable franchise and had a strong rivalry with the Yankees. I hear Cubs fans crying for Mark Cuban to buy their team, but if Cuban really wants to help a city in need, he'll buy the Royals and save our city. The Chiefs could go 0-16 this year, the Royals are just sad and we're trying hard to get a NHL team (with absolutely no luck). Its been a rough 25 years to be a KC fan. Have pity on us.

I'm wondering how I'm gonna make my next mortgage payment - now that's tension !!!

Guillen is just a self centered player. When he was over here with the Angels even Scioscia had problems with him, until he finally had suspend him for the last week of the season, and postseason. Too bad to it left Vladdy unprotected in the lineup in the playoffs. Now that he has become unproductive I just hope he gets cut, and never wears his 12th or 13 uniform.

You're 100% right about the Royals being a once proud organization. As a Met fan growing up in the late 70s, my baseball season usually ended in late July because my team was pitiful. I had to listen to the Yankee fans brag all summer about Munson, Reggie, and Guidry.
Once the play-offs would start, I'd become a huge Royal fan because they were all that stood between me and another long winter of Yankee fan abuse.
They had great teams with Brett, Patek, Wilson, and the guy with the toothpick (Aiken?) and the coolest stadium in the majors.
It really is sad how far they've fallen because of their inability to manage a franchise with 1/10 the payroll of the Yankees....like the Rays and Twins have been able to do.
