Cuban posts racist e-mails about Howard

Mark Cuban posted a bunch of nasty e-mails on his blog Friday from folks reacting to Josh Howard's stupid comment about the Star-Spangled Banner. Many of the e-mails were racist in nature, and all the senders' e-mail addresses were there for the world to see. Cuban had second thoughts and removed the e-mails from his blog. He explains why in a post headlined, "I made my point." An excerpt: I thought it was important to point out the hatred and ignorance of so many who quickly judge people they have never met, based purely on soundbites and headlines. If you think you know any public figure based on what you see on TV or read on the internet or in newspapers, you are sadly mistaken. I wanted to point out the irony of them experiencing the onslaught of attention from suddenly and unexpectedly being placed in the media spotlight from a throwaway comment. Try being in a position of always having to be "on" and checking for cameras, because if you let down your guard, any soundbite, even one as short as 11 seconds, can turn into headline news across the country, no matter what the context. Its not always easy. Nor is it easy to just accept that its part of being a "public figure" .

Cuban is just another jerk like Schilling. Or even the boy himself who made the stupid comments becasue he wants to appear to be a thug...a tough boy???? Go rob a friggin bank and then go toell and become thatn image - in real life. Just dont be facing in front of a camera acting like something stupid that your mamma taught you to be...? A nothing. If you do not like America - just leave. If you do not fell like - you have been an American just leave the country and gho be something somewhere.....? Whatever.

Cuban has a point regarding how it is easy to be misrepresented by the media, but I think we can all agree that Josh Howard is an idiot. No need for people to take issue with his race. Plenty of idiots from all walks of life. Cuban's exercise in posting the emails he received with the emailers' addresses is actually brilliant. I will personally be rooting against Josh Howard (but not the Mavs), but not because he is African-American. Rather I will be rooting against him because he is an idiot. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to critique particular US policies and aspects of our culture, but Howard is likely to be highly challenged to explain them. Like many of the white guys I know. Ironically, Howard mentions Obama in his tirade, but he (Howard) possesses exactly the sort of mind set that Obama is imploring us to grow up and out of. Of course Howard is probably too stoned to ever understand that.

i don't have a problem with people from other races, creeds, religions, ect... until its thrown in my face... comments like he made, are not only a slap in the face of the thousands of men and women serving and defending this country, for people like him.. the disrespectful people that talk, text, and anything else they do doing it.. but Josh Howard needs to realize just because he is black doesn't mean he doesn't need the National Anthem. he needs to grow up.. and learn some respect.

This is about the best post I have read on this subject.

For that reason, and that reason alone you should not be allowed to own any MLB team you moron! It's one thing to back your players, it's another to do so blindly. Any professional athlete that doesn't understand they are under 24 hour scrutiny doesn't deserve your support.

Too bad you didn't speak of his hatred and ignorance.

Cuban is so smart in financial thinking but such an idiot in dealing with people and situations that require restraint. Cuban's defense fails because Howard was at a PUBLIC event. If Howard would just stop talking and not act like an IDIOT at public events then everything would be fine. If he doesn't say what he said about pot then he would have been fine smoking it up. If he would have made fun of the flag while just hanging with his homies then he wouldn't have this problem now. Cuban acts like someone followed Howard to his home and installed video cameras to catch him doing something. Again, he was at a PUBLIC event, not in the back yard hanging with the bros.

Good job Cuban.

LOOK... Josh Howard is a friggin idiot!
But as a newer member of this site, I see something MUCH more ridiculous.
BOY(bond)007 as I will permanently refer to him, needs to simply walk, run, or better yet get in that klan vehicle of his, drive to the nearest mall or center, find the first two guys who look like anyone black, but for this scenario, like Josh Howard and call them boy. I know I will cease to see your ignorant, hiding in your apartment like a coward posts. You wouldnt call any grown black man in real life a boy, BOY. You are obviously a child and a fool.

There is no question--Josh Howard is an idiot. However, is he any more ignorant than some of the people who have responded here and in the media at large? From my point of observation, there are people that validate Howards feelings, and these are the people that are suppose to be the intelligent ones. The point is that the lesser of 2 evils is still evil.

If you think that the media is presenting an accurate description of African Americans, you are probably traveling in very small circles.

Second that. About the only thing he has done right since becoming an owner.

Is Josh Howard black? Does it matter? No matter what color your skin is or where your ancestors are from. If you live in and disrespect the U.S.A, you deserve any and all criticism that comes your way.

That, plus...the door is always open for you to leave.

What's really sad here is that Jason Terry [it was reported last season] always goes to take a leak during the National Anthem at games. These two guys are Americans [unpatriotic]. You don't see any foreign players disrespect our great country.

For that matter, neither has any other player that doesn't wear a Dallas Mavericks jersey!

September 20, 2008  01:26 PM ET

Just when you think this story cant get any crazier.

September 20, 2008  01:37 PM ET

Good job Cuban. I don't care what howard said. That's howard. Now what about you.

September 20, 2008  01:49 PM ET

Point is Josh Howard's ignorance doesn't give everybody else license, and if it does then Josh has license.
