Mets' '08 fade still haunts Glavine

He is back with the enemy, but since Tom Glavine is rehabbing a shoulder injury and the Braves are out of playoff contention, he couldn't help but swallow hard when he saw his old ballclub lose four out of five games last week and be overtaken in the NL East by the Phillies. He doesn't want to see it happen again. And even though he makes the point that it would be different this time, that missing the playoffs wouldn't be the collapse it was last year, Glavine says he's rooting hard for the Mets to survive this September. "It's hard not to pay attention to it," Glavine was saying before the Mets beat his Braves last night, 9-5. "Having been a part of it, and having friends on that team, it means something to me. If my team can't win, I'd love to see my friends win. What happened last year was tough for everybody." Glavine has had nearly a year to reflect on what went wrong, not only for the team but also personally, since he knows some Mets fans will always hold him most singularly responsible for missing the playoffs, thanks to his failure to last the first inning against the Marlins on the final day of the season. He indicates that he may never completely come to grips with it, except to say that in his heart of hearts, he knows he didn't choke.

Sorry Tom, you didn't get out of the first inning, that's a choke job! A current example would be the Brewers missing the post season.

Agreed.....He'd better check that heart of hearts one more time. He choked BIG time. His choke replaces the choke by Kenny Rogers in 1999 as the biggest choke in Mets pitching history.

Wait wait...He is openly rooting for the opposing team to beat his Braves....?

How much of a moron do you have to be to do that? Cant you wait until the series with them is over to say you hope the Mets beat you so they in turn beat the Phillies?

I always like Tom Glavine, feared him in his prime...but apparently the velocity isn't the only thing he lost. His sanity seems like it left long ago.

No Tom a true Atlanta Braves player nor fan will ever root for that team from the Queens. I sure as hell hope the Mets will choke again this year.

Goes to show you how Nascar fans are about as bright as a jar of peanut butter. Knuckehead...I know you've been sucking fumes for too long watching guys drive in left circles for hours, but a team cant collapse with a 1 game lead. They're in first by one. Now, run off before you make more of a jackass of yourself.

Okay, that' it....if my team doesn't win, I hope the Phillies do. I'll be rooting hard for them and I don't have any friends on the team, Ha!!!!!!!!!

Doing well so far this year.......Wont worry about what happened inthe past....Its now that counts.

Glavine will always be a Met no matter what! It wasn't just Glavine unfortunate outing in the last game....what happened to that high powered offense in the end?

Mets need to strap on tight cause September is going to be another hell of a ride.

Here we go again... and loving it. Let's see if the mets can even take the wild card spot. Seeings that the brewers seem to be falling out as well.
