Ray Ferraro, who should know, said that Brett Hull's short-lived career as a hockey analyst with NBC is over.

the hell with NBC I should say. All they care about is the mighty dollar. Make him a head coach of Boston, or an assistant with milbury, that will put some fire under the teams Butts. I like how he talks about the sport he isn't afraid. I tuned in each week just to watch him. oh and when Don Cherry was on, I thought the building was coming down, he was great also, correct is great.

Hull was a terrible analyst. Good riddance. He appeared uneasy and out of place sitting next to Clement who is a true professional. We need to ax that fool Mike Emrick next too. He's a little sissy.

June 17, 2007  11:51 AM ET

He was too real for NBC. NBC is making a big mistake, as is the NHL if they let this slide. Hull brought some reality to the shiny veneer of tv color commentary. He was abrasive, opinionated and a jerk, --- just like the rest of us hockey fans, which is why he was a great commentator.

June 17, 2007  12:05 PM ET

He was one of the few i actually enjoyed watching. It's a shame that they would take him off the air just cause he's opinionated.

June 17, 2007  12:08 PM ET

I wasn't really impressed with Hull in the booth. They brought him to be a fiery analyst but to me he seemed to come off as big pr1ck. He's no Grapes. Well nobody is Grapes.

Terrible, He was Terribel, Terrible, Terrible

Oh sorry i was just doing Hull's impersination when he talked about the Ducks, you're an **** Hull

June 17, 2007  02:25 PM ET

one word- BAD!!!!

June 17, 2007  04:00 PM ET

Not sorry to see him go. He was a Cherry wannabee, and he didn't do that very well. It's one thing to try to be controversial, another just to be critical. He was too biased to his friends or enemies. An analyst can't do that. As surprised as I am to say it, J.R. is much better.

If you want opionated but insightful, you look to Barry Melrose (plus, with the mullet you give Barry some extra slack). If you want to play the jerk, you need at least some self-deprecation to balance it. Brett has a lot to learn talking from the other side of the camera.

June 17, 2007  06:47 PM ET

He was just terrific. Insightful, not bashful about opinions, not afraid to be wrong. This will be a shining example about why the NHL will continue to fail in the media... dumping the best on-air guy since Cherry.

June 17, 2007  07:45 PM ET

Brett Hull, fiery? I thought he once called mike Keenan "****" - his is a guy who as a player had a reputation to not be a real intense type guy - certainly not the type of guy to light any fires under anyone.

Plus I read some really insightful (and as it turns out flat out wrong) comments, by Hull predicting the Ducks would lose -starting at least at the Detroit series-- sorry, Brett, but if you are going to play color analyst, occasionally you have to get something right like that.

Laugh, maybe - but one of the best color commentators (although not a national one) was Dale Tallon , John Davidson too was a great one (although I think he has another job now as well) -- Hull??? well, good player, but I think one of the 'foot soldiers' of the NHL wold be a hell of a lot more insightful about the game.

June 17, 2007  07:46 PM ET

Well, it got blanked out - but doing a search on Hull and Keenan, since Keenan just became employed again - will tell you what he thought of a guy with a reputation as a disciplinarian.

Brett Hull is the worst ever in the booth. he is a Don Cherry wannabe and a huge SUCKHOLE to him. Sickening. Hope he out of hockey forever

what is rong with u just cuz u think hes a bad anaylst u want him out of hockey for ever hes done more in his life that u can ever even dream of u r stupid and dont now what u r talking about

June 17, 2007  10:11 PM ET

Thank goodness he's gone! Every time he came on, I muted the TV.

June 17, 2007  10:13 PM ET

Not the biggest hockey fan here, but whenever he was on ar during the Playoffs, I tended to tune him out. Hull was horrible as an analyst, but he isn't the entire problem. If I was to fear that everyone game would be like watching one with him, I would never watch hockey again. Fortunately, I on;t have to tune out in between periods and then change the channel after the game.

The NHL and NBC need ot do more then just get rid of Brett Hull. THere are HUGE IMAGE problems here in the states with the game of hockey.

June 17, 2007  10:48 PM ET

I loved when Don Cherry told Brett Hull "hey you should talk, with a foot in the crease"

June 18, 2007  12:03 AM ET

I'm glad that John Davidson is not analyst... I agree with fireonice7777, that Mike Emrick needs to go... I can't watch hockey with that guy.

June 18, 2007  12:24 AM ET

NBC IS BIGGER PROBLEM FOR NHL THEN BRET HULL. MUCH MUCH BIGGER .......
AND I THINK ALL THE TV GUYS SUCK PERIOD !!!

No great loss! Perhaps NBC should consider the same !
