Bears won't trade no-show Briggs

Two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs was a no-show at minicamp in May and has yet to attend any of the Bears' 14 organized team activities, and he isn't expected to do so. If the Bears don't trade him -- and it appears they have no desire to -- Briggs' only chance to get the huge, long-term contract he wants is to play lights out this season and cash in next March. That means, whenever he shows up, he better be in tip-top shape and ready to make an impact from Day One.

This is what I hope happens. I hope this whiner holds out (after getting offered what?, some 7 million or what ever to play just one year) try's to come back by week 10 so this year counts for a full year; only to have the team to suspend him for say 3 weeks for "actions detrimental to the team" category. Thus, he has to come back next year AND collect only games he plays in this year. Now that would be poetic justice. The players have a union and THEIR union agreed to this "franchise player", if they don't like it, get THEIR union to change it. Until then, you play by the rules or suffer the consequences. And I for one, hope you get stuck in Bear town another year ( losing 7 million along the way) for your rouge actions.

When his contract was first being brought out early last year and through the season i would say "PAY HIM". I do think it's a shame that the Bears won't give him a long term deal. At the same time I also think it's a shame that this man has the opportunity to make $7.2 million this year and it isn't good enough for him. That is 200 years worth of someone's salary if they make $36,000/year. Yes to all NFL players, people do make that in the real world and somehow find a way to manage. Some of those folks are even more educated that you are and contribute more to our economy than you do. Quit whining make a real salary and get your **** to work Lance. I'd get canned at my job if I up and told my boss that i will only work 6 weeks this year unless i'm guaranteed to work here longer. With the exception of Rae Curuth you guys literally get away with murder, probably dog fighting, and a few other things.

June 17, 2007  12:57 PM ET

He would be better off as a niner.

June 17, 2007  01:43 PM ET

Dont show Lance you still will get paid. They want you, they just dont respect you. Make them respect you dont show.

June 17, 2007  02:06 PM ET

Since when is getting paid as high as the top five players at your position, not fair? 7.2 million dollars, i dont think i have ever heard anyone turn down that much. I wonder whats the going rate for a LB that hasent played football in a year and wont be happy at 7.2 million. Briggs gets the dumbest move of the year

June 17, 2007  02:11 PM ET

Sorry, but it's fair to put a franchise tag on Briggs, the Bears are not at fault in any way. I'd like to see the Bears trade him just to watch him fail...teams put a lot of effort into holding off Urlacher, and that frees up Briggs to make big plays. Paris Hilton could suit up next to Urlacher and be effective.

June 17, 2007  02:15 PM ET

he should just shut-up and play football, because the bears will probably put the franchise tag on him next year, just because he is being a littleb-i-t-c-h.

June 17, 2007  02:25 PM ET

Hard to believe Lance Briggs would be crying about 7.2 million bucks.Thats like Latrell Sprewell a few years ago making $14 Million and saying "he had kids to feed"...pathetic. If I told my boss I was gonna sit out because I wasn't happy, I'd be replaced in a heartbeat,as would any other "Average Joe". Just sad.

June 17, 2007  02:37 PM ET

bears have worst management in nfl history,, first they let rivera there dco go, then tjones, and they wont trade briggs? seroiusly,

June 17, 2007  04:40 PM ET

Quit being so Damn Selfish earn your money dont demand it, when your contract is up you earn a better one White Players Never Do This

June 17, 2007  05:40 PM ET

they should just trade him and get some picks, high picks for him before he goes for nothing after this year.

June 17, 2007  06:26 PM ET

The Bears ARE A notoriously cheap organization (althoguth good for them for bucking up for Lovie!). But Briggs is just not playing this right. He is what, 30,31 years old? LBs don't have that kind of production at that age and on. The Bears don't want to sign him long term and get stuck with his cap penalty when he breaks down in a couple years. Not to mention that Briggs wouldn't be NEARLY as good on a team that doesn't have arguably the BEST MLB in football next to him. It really doesn't show much dedication to a team or winning by looking out soley for #1 in this situation. I don't know much abotu hte guy personally... but his agent is a horses ****.

June 17, 2007  06:53 PM ET

They offered Briggs a six year, $35 million offer last summer, and he rejected it. The Bears have more than done their part in trying to get him to stay long term.

June 17, 2007  08:40 PM ET

Trade him to the Texans for a couple second round picks and let the big baby finish his career in obscurity on a losing team.

June 17, 2007  09:50 PM ET

they should just trade him before it gets worst

June 17, 2007  10:00 PM ET

Briggs just need to be trade to different team and let them redo his contract. What going on in his head to hold out on the team the went to the SUPERBOWL!!! I hate the one that breaks the news to Briggs but not even team goes. He better not be thinking that they went cause of him. Everybody knows it because of the dline and Urlacher. ESPN and NFL network already saying the Bears are better then last year.

June 17, 2007  10:37 PM ET

briggs get in camp we need u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 17, 2007  11:09 PM ET

screw briggs, they dont need him they got urlacher, hillenmeyer, and now jamar williams he can take Briggs spot, all players on holdout are whinny****

June 17, 2007  11:34 PM ET

I'm so tired of hearing about the Bears management. h2omvp, you're stupid. They let Rivera go because they didn't want him. Babich coaches more to Lovie's style. Lovie wanted Babich as his defensive coordinator, not the management. They TRADED Thomas Jones because they drafted Benson and Angelo promised Jones if he finished playing last season without being a distraction, he would trade Jones just like he wanted. It was just a matter of time before Benson became the first stringer, and Angelo was true to his word. Jones in no way wanted to be a second stringer, so Chicago traded him. They won't trade Briggs because no one wants him!!! Not because he isn't a good player, but because he has made such an a-s-s out of himself. If the right deal came along, Briggs would be history.

Nobody should be above the TEAM. He doesn't deserve to play for the Bears. Show this clown the door.
