Psychologist: Rutgers QB trying too hard
Saturday afternoon, when Mike Teel drops back to pass for the first time, one part of his body will be watched more closely than any of the others. His arm? No. His hips? Not quite. His feet? Not even close. It'll be his head. Or better yet -- what's inside of it. "It would appear that he's trying too hard," said Jack Stark, a sports psychologist who worked with the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team from 1991 to 2003. "So what you do, you naturally grab the ball and you squeeze it. And when you squeeze it, your arm's tight, you're not fluid, you're not relaxed and you get back in that pocket and you start forcing it and things just don't happen." After two games with dreadful results for his team and with even worse individual statistics, Teel will be under pressure today against Navy.

Or maybe it is just because when Rutgers plays a good or better team they usually lose.....Just a fact.

Then again, maybe he just sucks? You don't need a shrink for that!

Teel is a good quarterback and is clearly another in a long, long list of victims stuck playing a high-profile sport in the country's most ignorant, impatient, heartless, clueless market - the New York City Tri-State area. Rutgers football was beginning to be looked at by bandwagon jumping psuedo fans and the NYC market media like the Yankees, Mets, Giants, and Jets. This happens to a lot of these guys. If I were Teel, the guy I would dial up right away is Eli Manning. Perhaps, Teel now realizes he would have been better off getting out of Dirty Jersey.

Hehehehe....they actually pay that sports-psycho guy to make comments like that?
"You're trying too hard." That's right up there w/ "Usually, if you score more points, you win."

Well said. The writer worked with the Cornhuskers, but I suspect he's been in the Corn-squeezin's.

Little slow in big D, ThirdDay. Waiting for the Heart-Attack bowl to begin (LSU Fighting Tigers-Auburn Please-don't-boo-your-team Tigers). It's going to be tough, but I have booze to quell the nerves.
I'm an LSU alumn from NOLA.
How'd you guys fair out in the storm? I have family out in E.TX that lost power 'bout 2 hrs. into it. They got up n running 'bout a day later. Not bad compared to my poor little home town.

Gonz, we had a little breeze, not even a trace of rain, and live two hours west of Houston. My folks in Ohio just had their electric restored from Ike's remnants; they lost a lot of large Silver Maple trees and some Black Walnut trees on their place. A tree fell across their house; chainsaws are still in high demand. AS for my fav team, I was raised in Ohio, but have spent the majority of my life outside the state with a military commitment for years, and then college and grad school. Since I was raised there, I always had OSU as one of my favorites teams, although I attended Miami U of Ohio (the cradle of footvball coaches). Thanks for asking about the storm; cleanup is still a problem and lack of food for evacuees at food bank is a critical concern for those cities housing the displaced.

Hey Gonz, I know you and many, many others have been critical of the Buckeyes (including me). I do appreciate your comments; some of our fans take things far too seriously; everyone needs to be able to look at their fav team and analyze, then say what they think, right? If people who can change things listen, then maybe... Well, I gotta sign off, guys. Going out with my wife & kids to eat. Cheers to all!

Believe you me, ThirDay, I completely understand. I have paddled that boat, esp. after katrina.
Really opens your eyes. They wouldn't let us go back until we had hep A,B,C and tetanus shots! I drove thru ground 0. Talk about shock. And Guztav took out the rest of the trees back home, I'm told.
Thx for the accolades. I am never the 1 downgrade another ( minus fla. - those guys are insufferable), although I cannot speak for the rest of my brethren. I admit, I was kinda mad @ Jimmy T. for laying down like that. But then I realized there might be method to that madness. "Sit the Bean. Yes, we will get killed. Let's take our lumps from the media. Save the Bean for the rest of the Big 10. Win the Big 10. Get to a sizeable bowl. Unload in said bowl." It goes on from there. Makes sense to me, ma Man.
Congrats on the win today. No way y'all lose to 2 different sets of rubbers (trojans! Get it!!) Jimmy T. sticks w/ Pryor, y'all have it made.

Gonz, man I'm really sorry to hear 'bout what you had to go through. Is that why you are in Dallas or was Katrina a non-factor in that move. BTW, man thanks for the kind remarks about OSU and the bean. One last thing; gotta say I loved your remark about the trojans.

Katrina was a non-factor. The LA job market is pretty much nothing. I evacuated in 2000. Ha!
It was Dallas, TX or Starkville, MS.
I stop there.

Rutgers' recent success was a fluke. Can I get a shrink's hourly pay for that observation too? Schiano to Penn St will happen very soon.
