Mussina leaning toward Yankees return

Mike Mussina gave the strongest indication yet that he wants to play in 2009. "At some point in this offseason, I'll decide what's going on," said Mussina, who turns 40 on Dec. 8. "Obviously, to come back here and play, they're going to have to want me to come back here and play. "I'm not exactly getting any younger. I don't know if I can throw out 18 wins again next year, but I'd sure like to take a shot at it somewhere. And hopefully these guys will give me a chance." If the Yankees want him back, Mussina said, "That would be an easy answer." Mussina's contract is up after this season, and the Yankees' rotation is in flux. Manager Joe Girardi has said he wants more competition for rotation spots after handing jobs to Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy this year did not work out. With the Yankees expected to go after some free-agent starters, it's unknown if Mussina (or Andy Pettitte) would be asked back.

i hope Moose comes back, he has had a great year, we could use him again next year.. he can be a role model for some of these young pitchers.. he went from being taken out of the rotation to being an ace (after wang got hurt).

I HOPE MOOSE COMES BACK

I don't see why he wouldn't. Mike finished up the season real well for the Yanks while Andy who started off well gave up a lot of runs in the past few games. Even is they don't bring him back as a starter he would make a good MR or closer.

He's already got 18 wins, and shown he is more than able to adjust to getting older. He's exactly the kind of pitcher every team wants. Coming off this season, if the Yankees don't sign him, it will be to someone else's benefit. Unless it's the O's - he can't pitch for **** there!

...whoops, sorry, fister, didn't see that 'til just now ... "the Yankees need to go get every free agent possible. Whine, whine."

Frickin' idiot.

I would love to see Moose finally make his 20 wins this year...that would be great for him. But if they bring him back...they need to do it at a discounted price. No 16-20 mil for the year. I think the Moose of '07 is more likely to show next year than the moose of '08. As far as free agents...i know everyone thinks/knows the Yankees will go after CC, but i am fairly certain Dempster is a FA next year too. He is having a great year as well, but i havent seen his name brought up any where.

If they decide to sign him.....they should ONLY sign him to a 1 year deal.
NO POSSIBLE WAY he duplicates this season-

September 20, 2008  12:36 PM ET

As he has altered his pitching and is more aggressive and pitches inside he's far more productive.
He like to work near home --- so if he moved--- Mets or Philly? .... is that really a choice ? He will either play for The New York Yankees or will possibly crack his first smile as he rocks himself to sleep on his multi million dollar porch....

Real problem is if you are a Yankee veteran...it is playing for the manager of the Yankees at present and that really is not Joe's fault as it was the other Joe's Team ...
