Yates leading chase for Menard

Ask Max Siegel one day about Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s prospects of keeping driver Paul Menard in 2009 and he's very confident. Ask him the next and his outlook is more grim. "We're just in the heat of competition right now for Paul," said Siegel, DEI's president of global operations. "As of right now, nothing has changed, but my gut feeling seems to change frequently." Speculation mounted Friday at Dover International Speedway that Menard had decided to move to the Yates Racing organization next season, but both Siegel and Yates team owner Doug Yates denied a deal had been completed. Both said, however, a decision was expected very soon.

RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This would put a hurting on DEI. Does Paul go to the same salon as Truex? They actually look like they could be brothers.

They don't want Paul as much as they want the fathers money. The Menard money is the prize here.
Off topic; has anyone said anything about privatizing Social Security and investing our S S in the stock market lately?

September 20, 2008  11:15 AM ET

Yeah, JK, Menard's money is a lot bigger draw than Paul is.
Per your other comment, I was a lifer at SSA (retired after 35 years) and my opinion (and it's just that-my opinion) is that only a sap would invest guaranteed money in the stock market. Some will come out ahead but most would lose. Just think of the howls you'd be hearing right now if ten million people had lost all the money this week they had diverted to the stock market from SSA. It would just be more money the government would be pressured to reimburse. I'll say it again, I think it's a VERY bad idea.

DEI, is RIP, this is really sad to me, but the powers that be (she knows who she is), blew IT!
as for the SSA, I'm betting on getting nothing and have made other arrangements.

McCain said the fundamentals of the economy are good, that's like being on the Titanic and saying the fundamentals of cruise lines are good.
Agree that the Menard money is the big story here. I understand daddy has deep pockets.
It seems that whenever a camera goes on Paul, it is when he is running 25th to 35th and he gets caught up in a wreck or he causes one.

Have to agree with JK on this one $$$$ is what it's all
about,,And as far as Max The Widow Humper goes
I hope he flunks out on the deal

LOL @ SLY.....I chuckle everytime you say widow humper.....I love that !
So what if Menard's dads money is the draw here......I think DEI is so far down the tubes that it is impossible to rate any driver that is with them.......I don't know if Paul will ever be strong competition, but I sure would like to see what he could achieve on another team......he is so lucky to have sponsor $$$ to bring with him.

Where is everyone, Football? LOL

September 21, 2008  07:08 AM ET

I agree with what Little E said, even the part about the widow humper LOL
I hope Paul has more success elsewhere than DEI

September 21, 2008  12:47 PM ET

I believe that 'Widow Humper" and "TURD", have become my 2 favorite words in this Group!

September 21, 2008  01:32 PM ET

....and this is a story? The only redeeming quality is that it lets you know if your team is going to pick him up so you can jump ship.

September 22, 2008  10:13 AM ET

I can't help but wonder if the main reason Yates is going after Menard is his dad's big money sponosorship. That goes a long way when it comes to two teams that have had only a partial season of being sponsored and the rest came from Yates' pocket.
