Michigan chasing Georgia commitment

Recruiting mail continues to pour into Valdosta for Georgia-bound linebacker Mike Gilliard. But Valdosta coach Rick Tomberlin believes that Gilliard, who is rated by Scout.com as the 24th-best weakside linebacker in the nation, will fulfill his commitment to the Dogs. "The folks at Michigan are calling him," Tomberlin said. "He'll come in and say 'the coaches at Michigan want me to take an official visit.' " But don??'t expect the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Gilliard, an AJC's The Georgia Top 150 selection, to show up in Ann Arbor, Mich. anytime soon.

Only the Atlanta Journal Constitution would consider this news.

If Michigan can get him on campus they might have a shot but otherwise it's a long shot.

It used to be in the "bad old days" that a commitment was exactly that. Now, I don't know. How many "decommits" does a recruit get? If a recruit decommits. can he recommit to the same school he decommitted from? Will the world ever return to sanity?

I wonder is there a cap on recommits?

He may be very good, but Blue needs something else.

Beware of the Dude in the M hat.

Who in their right mine would want to play for that SOB RR.

September 20, 2008  05:45 PM ET

I'm not sure if it's playing for RR that's the motivating factor, or playing for UM. Playing in the big house and Michigan's potential may have had something (if little) to do with it.

I just don't get this attitude... most likely written by an MSU or OSU fan... jealousy if a funny thing... RR is hardly the only (or first) person to recruit a player whos already committed... but now it makes him a SOB... oh I forgot he changed jobs after signing a contract... wait... alot of people do that too... so what is it then... im wondering if RR ran over an old lady sometime in his life and people are just bitter at him forever

Ask Bobby Petrino! Ha!

Don't know if the comment is sarcasm but if not, plenty of the country's top talent wants to play for RR. Just wait and see.

Amen. Track records don't lie. Ask Tulane.

Petrino took a pay cut to get out of the Falcon mess. Franchish QB was sent to prison, I would want out of that too.

*Franchise

September 20, 2008  08:43 PM ET

He will probably end up going to Georgia but if he wants to give Michigan a look, he should.

September 21, 2008  12:21 AM ET

He is going to Georgia. Why would he want to go to RR disaster up north!

September 21, 2008  01:08 AM ET

To bad that we can not tar and feather RR and run him out of town on a rail.

maybe we should do it to people like you, instead...

lol, someone from OH and this fool of course are criticizing RR... people are shameless

UGA along with a lot of other schools would love to have him. This is a normal part of the recruiting process. At Georgia he would play as a freshman since we rotate players so much. Also, he would have a good chance at going pro (think Georgia has 3rd most players in the NFL right now).

Did RR note he would have a chance to try out for QB?
