Brewers face major roster changes
The Brewers might undergo major upheaval if they don't hold on to win the NL Central, according to multiple baseball officials. CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets are likely heading elsewhere as free agents. The Angels and Dodgers may have a tug-of-war for Sabathia, while the Astros, with some heavy lobbying by Roy Oswalt, could land Sheets. There will be no shortage of suitors for shortstop J.J. Hardy, including Detroit and Baltimore. And the biggest shock of all might be the team's willingness to deal Prince Fielder for a starting pitcher.

Well they should, because they have ruined the idea of the "team" concept anyway after canning the manger. ****? Why???? And there is no good answer other than say STUPIDITY. Break the team up and fire the GM and the owners should sell the team.

Does anyone really think they were going to bid against the Yankees, Angels, etc. for these players anyways??..... the breakup of the team was inevitable regardless of the results.... and firing Yost was really stupid.... there was no reason to panic like that..... it only made things worse.....

Didn't they lose the division yesterday? Good looking out Boston Globe!

Roy Oswalt is the best pitcher in baseball not named Johan. If the Stros sign Sabathia and a bat, they would immediately become the NL favorites.

Hold on to win the Central? They haven't led the Central all year. They won't even get the wildcard. Who is this putz from the Globe?

Hire Paul Molitor as manager, trade Fielder and Hardy to SF for Matt Cain. Ricky Weeks?.....wow don't know what do there, although if hired Molitor may be the right influence for him.

If I were Sabathia I would look to sign with the Dodgers. He'll be loved, play for a class-act manager, and absolutely dominate the NL West batting orders. As a Padres fan, I dread this of course, but for Sabathia's concerns this is the ONLY logical place. On the other hand the WORST moves for him to make as far as sanity and madness would be to entertain thoughts of NY (either team) or Boston.

As a Yankee fan, I still agree with you EastCoast..... Sabathia's best place to sign would be the Dodgers. From what I hear, he likes it in Cali and is working on building/buying a house there now. He'll get enough money from LA anyway, so its a matter of where he's most comfortable. And thats not in New York with the Steinbrenners, media, and fans breathing down your neck every start we make. He'd be smart to go west and enjoy the sunshine with a much less degree of pressure

I think the Brewers took their one shot to get to the postseason by signing CC......and it kind of looks like it's all going to be for naught. Look for them to slip behind the Cubs, Cards and Astros next year.

Once again TenRings nailed it. The Brewers shot their wad this year as they have no hopes of resigning some of their key players. As far as Houston, they do have a nucleus, but they still have a ways to go to overcome the talent of the Cubs and Crdinals.

Nobody's going to confuse the New York and LA media markets with Milwaukee. So except for those three teams, it's hard to buy talent. You want to compete, it's all about the farm system. Every single playoff team this year has that in common (except for the White Sox, who brilliantly steal everyone else prospects). And Milwaukee's farm system just isn't very good. They risked it all for this year, presumably came up short, and now they are screwed for the rest of the decade. And trading your 25 year old clean up hitter for a pitcher isn't the way to go- because they already traded his replacement for a rental pitcher this year.

I hope the 'stros dont sign sheets--the player is a garunteed DL spot. In his contract year he's struggling to stay healthy. Also, the Astros have no hope of signing CC, he's way out of our market.
I forget where I saw this, but I remember CC saying he wants to be a Giant..?
