Cassel or Quinn could be Vikings' next QB

The most viable starting quarterback for the Vikings to pursue after the season would seem to be Matt Cassel, who is filling in for injured Tom Brady with the New England Patriots. Cassel, 26, can become an unrestricted free agent at season's end. So can the Arizona Cardinals' Kurt Warner, 37. The Vikings could try to trade with the Cleveland Browns for Brady Quinn, 23, but he's unproven. Regarding Tampa Bay's Jeff Garcia, 38, the Vikings have not been impressed.

Why, because he plays for the Pats as a backup? Last time I checked T. Jackson has more starts than Cassel and Quinn! Can a brother get a chance? Get off Cassel and Quinn's bozack! Maybe the Titans should do the same thing, huh?

all the qbs that could be had and the vikes continue on their current quest to win without a qb. reminds me of the bears..

Quinn is unproven, but Cassel isn't? 1 start does not a proven QB make. Teams that spend big money for a back up that had one good year are making a huge mistake. That, and Cassell hasn't even had a good year yet. Who comes up with this stuff?

September 21, 2008  09:15 AM ET

Sounds like just a lot of speculation to me.

September 21, 2008  09:23 AM ET

Jackson is still raw talent, give him time, For Cassel, loyalty, coaching staff is one thing to remain with the Pats, especially since Brady has talked about retiring before serious injury, and his knee injury isnt serious? Cassel might prefer to stay longer, Quinn is unproven, plus costly, throw Anderson in the mix, big maybe. Garcia? happy feet is old, only temporary relief.

Look, Tavaris Jackson is terrible.....to say otherwise is ridiculous.... maybe he'll improve at some point, but I doubt it.... All the QBs mentioned are either unproven or on their last leg..... that's why they might be available..... I don't see a Viking savior in the bunch.....

You're kidding aren't you? Cassel has historically when been in a preseason game managed to fumble, bumble and stumble. So he has a few half decent games with an all-star lineup. This does not make him a viable alternative for another team. Lets see how the season unfolds and remember the quality line and receivers he has to play with. Then make a decision if he's better than what you already have.

Anyone ever hear of just drafting a good QB? Jackson was suspect from the get go. QB is the MOST important piece of a championship team. If a team has to, trade up in the draft and get a good one.

September 21, 2008  09:51 AM ET

Cassel hasn't done anything to warrant a contract as a starter. This guys is like Jim Sorgi. Nobody expected him to play.

Throw Gus a 3 year extention

September 21, 2008  10:03 AM ET

Browns need to hold off, I dont think there completely sold on D. Anderson

September 21, 2008  10:26 AM ET

Well the jury is still out for Cassel, wait in till the season over before talking about this. We will see what Cassel is made of at the end of season only time will tell. For now he's doing good, and I hope he dose till the end of season.

How about coach and develop the young quarterback you have.

September 21, 2008  11:29 AM ET

LOL!!! Quinn for president.

September 21, 2008  11:30 AM ET

First Childress needs not to put Jackson in a no win situation. They need to throw more on first down, not saying that is the answer, but at least you give the QB a chance.

September 21, 2008  11:32 AM ET

The Vikings are only interested in a QB who plays like a RB.

September 21, 2008  11:38 AM ET

The Vikings could try to trade with the Cleveland Browns for Brady Quinn, 23, but he's unproven.

They're all unproven until you give them an opportunity. Are we to believe that Cassel is suddenly a proven NFL quarterback? I think Quinn will eventually be a good quarterback. This wouldn't be a bad move at all for the Vikings.

wow.. everyone says give jackson time to season up and get better..
but the time is now.. if u cant complete a freakin pass to a decent recieving core then u shouldnt be in this game..

wen the passing game opens up, then peterson gets 200+ yards every game and NFL MVP..
i say put in Booty because he cant be any worse than Jackson.. aqnd is a better passer..

Not good news for a team when you're talking about possible off-season moves after 2 games played.
