President Bush: Celtic pride is back

President George W. Bush paid tribute to the coaching of Doc Rivers and the Celtics' sense of team play during a 10-minute ceremony yesterday at the White House, commemorating the team's 17th NBA championship. "So, Celtic pride is back," Bush said before a crowd of about 250, including Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont, in the East Room. Bush spoke from a podium standing next to the NBA championship trophy, named for former Democratic National Committee chairman Lawrence O'Brien, the scene framed by portraits of George and Martha Washington. Bush opened by referring to the importance of teamwork, then mixed in jokes, including a self-deprecating reference to his days as owner of the Texas Rangers, and afterward was presented with a basketball autographed by the team and a No. 43 Celtics jersey.

I agree with the general sentiment of this statement.
What happened in 2000 was an atrocity.
But how did it happen twice? Even though I don't like Bush, I admit that he won fairly in 2004.

Being Californian, we would enjoy seeing the Lakers win a title this year.
We all know that they have the talent and the coaching to do it.
However, in the end, what matters is how badly Kobe and Gasol want it, compared to Garnett and Pierce. Last year, KG and Pierce's sheer desire propelled the Celts past other teams that could have beaten them. If these two have the same desire to defend their title this year, then they will repeat.
Kobe already has 3 rings, and he enjoyed getting a gold medal this summer as well. He may not have the same sheer drive that the Celts have, and even though he's as talented (or more so), in the end, it's his desire that matters.

Who cares what bush has to say he is the most incompentent, lying PRESIDENT IN HISTORY. But back to the celtics, if the lakers would have kept that 24 point lead in game 4, the lakers would most definitely won the series. Sometimes teams goes through growing pains before they reach the top. The lakers will learn their lesson from the failures last year and win 64 games in route to their first and counting championship runs.

You're right Jay L.......KG and PP wanted that series more the Kobe and Gosal did.......that made a lot of the difference.

Sure, Celtic pride is back. But the American pride is long gone along with your dumbass policies (lack thereof) and deception and incompetence. The lesser you speak in public, the better it is for you, and for the country. So take all your oil wealth, STFU and go someplace in TX and keep low. Thanks for all the hard work Bushie!! Heck of a job

And yes this happens every year, president talks to the champs

The celtics in my opinion is the worst NBA champion in the history of the NBA. This team has won only 3 playoff road games. That is just horrific. This team will make a second round exit out of the playoffs this coming up year. Paul Pierce has lost his damn mind saying he is the best player in the world, everyone with good sense knows that is Kobe Bryant. The Celtics has one year wonder written all over it. Celtic fans enjoy because it might be the last title you see in very very long time.

The Celtics are still the World Champions. As far as Baby Bush goes, he has done the impossible. He has made his father, Papa Bush look better and better as a President.

The Celtics are still the world champions. George W. has done the impossible. He has made his father, George H. W., look better and better as a Prersident.

I don't think they are a one year wonder. With the age of KG, Pierce and Allen, it's obviously not a futures program........but they'll compete hard for another title the next two years at least.
