How Dolphins shocked Patriots

The Wildcat got 'em. That's what Ricky Williams called the unconventional offensive package the Dolphins sprung on the Patriots during today's 38-13 beatdown at Gillette Stadium. The unique strategy had running back Ronnie Brown taking a direct snap while lined up in the shotgun as the quarterback, Williams coming left to right in motion as a receiver, and quarterback Chad Pennington at receiver. Some might call it a gimmick, but gimmicks are usually one-time deals, trick plays used sparingly. In this case, the Dolphins went to the Wildcat six times, and clawed the Patriots' defense into submission with touchdown runs of 2, 5, and 62 yards, as well as Brown's 19-yard touchdown pass.

One-trick pony. Defenses will be ready for it in future.

Congrats Dolphins, As a football fan, that was fun to watch. Best of luck.

Blown out at home against the Dolphins??? LOL

Let's see how generous Peter King is with his weekly power rankings. The J-E-T-S lost last week and didn't lose a spot.

fins been due. you can't lose that much and not statistically have a big win coming.

September 22, 2008  07:25 AM ET

That was fun to watch but I wish I would have started Ronnie Brown in fantasy football.

September 22, 2008  07:26 AM ET

Good win Dolphins..

September 22, 2008  07:27 AM ET

If a team is going to pull out trick plays to win a game, they might as well do it right. Sounds like the Fins did. After all their recent losses, this one had to be sweet for Fins fans.

September 22, 2008  07:39 AM ET

HOW?...HOW?....RONNIE "WATCH ME DO THIS AGAIN, and AGAIN, and AGAIN, and.......(well you get the point)" BROWN is HOW THEY DID IT!!!

September 22, 2008  07:44 AM ET

That was fun to watch. The thing is, no matter what they would either have to run for Ricky or for Ronnie...you might say one-trick pony but it's actually three trick when you factor in Ronnie Running, Ricky Running, or Ronnie Passing.

Bills #1 in the AFC East

Agreed. Anyone know where KP and Lady's Coach Belicat are? Seems like all the Patriots fans just vanished and went back into the woodwork, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

September 22, 2008  08:02 AM ET

Trick play six times ? Damn, that ain't fair. 1 and 15 team last year beats the dynasty ? Holy smokes, smoked by the Fins....

September 22, 2008  08:08 AM ET

I would have liked to see the Dolphins run up the score a bit more, but It was a fun game to watch

September 22, 2008  08:09 AM ET

No fair, coach! They went and got creative on us!

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of guys! Way to go, Miami.

As a true Pats fan good win Dolphins.

It had to come some time, I give Porter his due he did what he said he was going to do and we got beat down plan and simple. Pats need to think really hard on what you gone to do on your bye week. Games will get tougher for now on there will be no more for sure wins for the Pats. The whole team is to blame as one every teammate has to do there job on the filed and off the field also. I won't give up just because we lost a game, it will be tough coming out the AFC now.

But much respect to the Dolphins and there coaches we were out played, good win to the Dolphins fans.

September 22, 2008  08:18 AM ET

I told you fools to watch out for the Tuna-ized Fins. True enough that a dolphin is a kind and gentle creature...but if provoked, he will bite yoass.

September 22, 2008  08:25 AM ET

I was shocked as well.

September 22, 2008  08:29 AM ET

LOVED IT!

The only thing missing was the Dolphins going for it on 4th and 10 with seconds left to punch in extra points like the Pats did all last season. Pats fans, get used to yesterdays pounding. Without Tom Terrific, defenses are going to pound Mr. Cassel into a fine mash. Ever hear about this little thing called karma?
