Titans owner backs Young

V.Y. is still Bud Adams' guy. The Titans owner said on Sunday he has no doubt quarterback Vince Young will succeed in the NFL. And despite recent events, using the franchise's first pick of the 2006 draft on Young wasn't a mistake, he said. "No, no,'' Adams said as he left LP Field after the Titans defeated the Texans. "It has been a terrible thing, what he's been going through. But I still think he is going to be a great one. Down the years I think we'll be glad to have him. He'll bounce back. -- He's liable to be playing here 15 years.'' As long as Kerry Collins stays healthy and the Titans are playing well, Young will be the backup or the No. 3 quarterback, Coach Jeff Fisher said last week.

owner is always going to back the player he is paying a ton of money too. owner of the titans really needs to consider firing whoever made the draft picks for the past 3-5 years though. titans drafts have been suspect at best.

"He's liable to be playing here 15 years"

Nobody plays for a team for 15 years anymore.

September 22, 2008  07:28 AM ET

He has to back him up. But hopefully Vince matures on and off the field while he's injured. This might be good for him to sit down and watch Collins.

September 22, 2008  07:28 AM ET

Of course be backs him, he's paying him a boatload of money.

September 22, 2008  07:44 AM ET

Vince will be fine. Injury might have been a good thing - take some time, get out of the limelight, watch and learn, reset, refocus, and come out strong.

What owner would say it was dumb to give a guy $58 million over five years to be your QB and he is a basket case and sitting on the bench in his third season?

September 22, 2008  08:33 AM ET

come on Bud ... admit you blew it and move on ...

Right, he don't want to look like a total idiot...

He will be fine? What have you been watching? The guy is the WORST passing QB in the entire league. Hes lucky the Titans have a dominant defense or they would have been howling to bench him last year. 9 total TDs last year is a joke for a starting Qb.

September 22, 2008  10:20 AM ET

He's trying to talk himself into believing Young is not a bust and an embarrassment to the team.

September 22, 2008  11:11 AM ET

Bud is 85 years old. That man probably doesn't even know who they were talking about. Everyone wonders why he keeps Fisher around and pays him almost the highest salary of any coach in the NFL when he has only had three winning seasons in 13. (and a few 8-8) Because he's old, and doesn't want to think about it! He just keeps Fisher around, get's a Texas boy as his quarterback... see the pattern. "I'm old and tired. I'll just do what's easiest and takes little thought or effort."

September 22, 2008  12:06 PM ET

He's a quiter!!

September 22, 2008  12:15 PM ET

Of course Bud backs Vince - he picked him against all the logical advice available at the time.

Vince may eventually turn out to be a good QB. IF he learns how to read a defense, let alone an NFL defense, oh, and don't forget improve his passing accuracy a bunch too.

September 22, 2008  12:21 PM ET

Give him time, he's only 1 year removed from being ROY.

September 22, 2008  12:28 PM ET

He'll be out of the League with in 3 years...suckin' on his Momma's B***ies!

September 22, 2008  12:57 PM ET

Young should get himself ready - Collins hasn't beaten anybody yet... lets see how he does against the Vikings D this week.

September 22, 2008  01:21 PM ET

Young is done as a potential superstar.

He doesn't have the pasisng ability, doesn't have the field vision or the IQ.

Now, we all have found he doesn't have the mental make-up to be a team general.

The Titans are now stuck with a multi-million dollar reclamation project. If they hold him long enough, some team will try to "change" him. But, what other options does a coach have when you have a key player quit on his team? How is the guy supposed to gain the respect and confidence back from his teammates? How do they know he won't pull the same crap again and quit when the going gets tough?

Now we will hopefully NEVER hear these ESPN guys say that the Wonderlic test is useless. Young scored a 6 on it and hes proven that hes worthy of that score. No one ever said the test was foolproof but Ryan Leaf was another guy who scored terribly on it and for some reason the Chargers refused to listen to it just like the Titans did by choosing Vince.
