Lions coaches losing players?

Matt Millen was speechless when a reporter approached him at halftime. The immediate aftermath of the Lions' 0-3 start is the questioning of coaching confidence. Players aren't openly attacking the offensive and defensive philosophies, but they aren't shy in publicly outlining their limitations when faced once again with an insurmountable early deficit. "Why didn't we consistently go with four wideouts earlier than we did," Roy Williams said. "We're not set up philosophically to overcome mistakes like we were before," said a physically aching Jon Kitna. Those aren't exactly ringing endorsements. When asked if the team still fully believed in its coaches, linebacker Ernie Sims said they did -- because the coaches told them to believe in them.

This team may not win a game with this putrid defense and hit and miss offense. Sad.

the lions made some strange roster moves in the off season. then again, millen always does. perhaps with the 1st pick in next years draft the lions will take a ______________.

September 22, 2008  07:49 AM ET

They'll win some games. They'll probably beat the Vikings at least once.

MIllen may very well be the worst GM in a very very long time. Maybe he can go work with Al Davis.

Losing teams breed losing attitutes. I should know, I'm a Pirates "fan"...if one could call anyone a fan of that team.

Take heart Motown. Hockey starts soon.

LOL. that's good. wish my town had an NHL team to look forward too.

Millen's comment last week about how Mr. Ford asks the right questions most likely went something like this:
Ford: "Matt, would you like another beer?"
Millen: "Don't mind if I do, Mr. Ford, don't mind if I do."
The entire organization is a joke. Things will not ever get better with this team until William Clay Ford in no longer the owner of the team.
FIRE MILLEN, MR. FORD !!!

September 22, 2008  09:48 AM ET

as well they should

September 22, 2008  09:53 AM ET

Gee, I wonder why.........

September 22, 2008  10:22 AM ET

The Lions are a joke...

September 22, 2008  11:24 AM ET

Perhaps Millen should stop looking at the sideline and trying to find the problem. I think he would have more luck finding the common problem in Detroit if he went and looked in a mirror. The guy is a joke, the team is a joke.

September 22, 2008  12:59 PM ET

Players? The Lions have players? Could have fooled me.

September 22, 2008  01:01 PM ET

Again the root of the problem is Matt Millen.

September 22, 2008  01:35 PM ET

Why would the Lions listen to them? With the amount of BS coming out of their mouths about small bumps in the road and such, I think the football coach at my high school had more credibility. Sure, we lost in the championship game all three years, but at least the coaches and players were honest about what happened. I'd be quite happy if the Lions lost the Super Bowl.

Ford: Hey Matt, great job with the Lions.
Millen: Thanks Clay. Don't worry, things are looking up.
Ford: I believe you, Matt. You know, I wanted to ask you something. I hear Hybrid Cars are the thing of the future.
Millen: Oh, that's just a bunch of hoo-haw. What this country needs is gas guzzling trucks! Trust me, like you've trusted me with the Lions.
Ford: You're right Matt. You know we have a car that gives 65 miles per gallon right?
Millen: Trust me, Americans don't want that. Just sell that car in Europe.
Ford: Hmmm. That's a good idea. By the way, have you seen that kid out of Texas Tech?
Millen: Did I? I'm already set to draft him next year.
Ford: Good. I'm so glad I have you as an Adviser Matt.
Millen: You complete me Big Willy.

This just in: Lions coaches losing players. Zzzzz. Maybe Coach marinelli should be more of a drill sargeant type...

September 22, 2008  05:57 PM ET

Can someone explain to me how Matt Millen still has a job? ****? That guy gotta be on his knees in the owners press box...

September 22, 2008  09:25 PM ET

The Fords run their football team like their car company. BAD BAD BAD.
