Sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that Oakland Radiers owner Al Davis intends to fire coach Lane Kiffin as early as today, September 22. ESPN's report indicates team officials have informed Kiffin of the impending move, which will follow Sunday's 24-23 loss to the Bills. The Raiders allowed 17 points in the final eight minutes to fall to 1-2 on the young season. Kiffin's job has been in question since January, when he and Davis argued over the team's defensive coordinator, and Davis sent Kiffin a letter of resignation to sign.

Fire the man if you're going to. The Raiders have to be the worst ran franchise in the NFL today. Or maybe the Lions.

al has turned into the crazy uncle the NFL doesnt like to admit being related to

They need to just let him go so he can find a college coaching job or a coordinator position and be done with the Oakland Circus. The Raiders are one of the worst, but I have to give it to the Lions. Consistently in the Top 10 in the draft, and consistently terrible. At least the Raiders made it to the Super Bowl recently.

Al Davis should fire himself first
The Lions and Rams look like crap this year I cant believe I thought they would both win 6 games

September 22, 2008  07:54 AM ET

Fire him!! You didn't give Jamarcus Russsell the keys to Fort Knox for nothing.

September 22, 2008  07:56 AM ET

This again? $h*t or get off the pot.

September 22, 2008  07:56 AM ET

And yes, Al shoud fire himself!

September 22, 2008  08:13 AM ET

I didn't watch the game but given the hot and steamy relationship between Davis and the DC, Rex Ryan, what chance is there that Ryan blew the game just to give Davis the loss he needed to fire Kiffin?

September 22, 2008  08:14 AM ET

Rob Ryan I mean, damn twins.

September 22, 2008  08:14 AM ET

The thing is, the Raiders don't look that bad. A few breaks here and there, and they could be 2-1. Other than that 1st game of the season, they've played pretty decent. Al Davis is just stubborn. He has to have someone on his staff that can talk some sense into him.

September 22, 2008  08:26 AM ET

Al Davis = insanity.

Tell me, who in their right mind would want to work for the Raiders? Davis is the undisputed King of lunatic owners. He has lost all credibility. Kiffin has them playing the best ball they have played in years.. they lose a heartbreaker in Buffalo, a tough place for any team.. and they fire the coach? This after Davis didn't have the nads to fire him in the offseason, only sent him a letter asking Kiffin to resign? Davis is a laughingstock.

September 22, 2008  08:27 AM ET

adios amigo ...

September 22, 2008  08:28 AM ET

SI needs to check there stats! The Raiders are 1-2, not 0-3. Can't forget about that huge win over the mighty Chiefs!

September 22, 2008  08:37 AM ET

Sheesh, I thought he was suppose to do this last week..Wait, or was it 2 weeks ago? I don't remember but he needs to go ahead if he's going to do it...

September 22, 2008  08:42 AM ET

Didn't think any owner could be worse than Art Modell, but Davis takes the prize. Heck, being as Romeo 'king of dumb looks' Crennel is probably next on the firing block, give us Browns fans a young, energetic coach like Kiffin. He even beat us with the sneaky time out called before the field goal kick.

Week six on Monday night: Browns vs. G-men, showing our new head coach and the start of the Brady Quinn era.

Who wrote this piece? Is he or she some kind of moron? The Raider's record is 1-2, not 0-3. Such a big deal was made about it last weekend when they actually won a game and Kiffin got to keep his job for another week. How can a sports writer not know the record of a team he's writing about?!

September 22, 2008  09:07 AM ET

Davis is the one that should be fired. Kiffin had them playing hard and with pride....obviously not Raider ball.

My feelings exactly; how is it Kiffin's fault that Ryan's defense (which is ran by Al & Ryan, without Kiffin's input) gave up two late touchdowns and a field goal to LOOSE the game?

I think Kiffin woould kick butt as coach of the Browns; it would be a great move and another way to tell Al he needs to ****
