Rangers face tough call on Bradley

Milton Bradley poured out his heart last week, as much as the chronically guarded Bradley will allow it. He wants to take care of his mom, he said. He wants to be paid like "one of the elite players in the game." He wants, he said, "a long-term contract." And if the Texas Rangers or anyone else only offer him a one-year deal, Bradley said that he'd be "fed up with baseball" and quit. Bradley, for his part, will be remembered for his absences as much as his contributions. For one injury or another, he has missed 36 games this season. He was expected to be one of the team's starting outfielders. Instead, Bradley has played only 20 games in the outfield. He probably should have gone on the disabled list twice - during a June stretch in which he missed six of 12 games and in early August, when he was out for 12 of 17. But Bradley is stubborn. Manager Ron Washington usually let Milton decide when Milton would play. When he did play, though, Bradley played with a fire that hasn't often been seen by this franchise. If Bradley leaves, the Rangers will have to think about how to replace his intensity as much as his bat.

I think the guy gets a bum rap, although admittedly he has brought a lot of problems on himself.

The guy played hard this year and had a big year.....he can flat out hit. I hope he gets a decent offer from Texas

Wow, I for one feel real bad for these over-worked millionaries

September 22, 2008  12:57 PM ET

poor milton, im "fed up" with cry baby millionaries!!! maybe ill just quit watching baseball!

He is not happy with this team either?? Whats going on with Sheffield Junior somebody touched his gold plated Ferrari??

September 22, 2008  07:21 PM ET

As a Padres fan, I would take Bradley back in a heartbeat. This guy was a boy scout in San Diego and reportedly loved by his teammates there. And San Diego sure could use his bat. The question/blockade here though is would San Diego give him the contract he rightfully so wants and deserves?

C'mon, Milton, it's time for: Operation Shutdown

September 22, 2008  08:33 PM ET

He deserves an offer from the Rangers. He still has pop in his bat. If he doesn't land in TX, I am sure he will land elsewhere

This is a guy that threw a beer bottle in the stands after a bunch of Raider fans were taunting him. Even though he's a good hitter. A team would be crazy to give him a long term deal.

Go make some toys or something.

September 22, 2008  11:24 PM ET

This guy is just plain and simple crazy. I mean really crazy. No team in their right mind is giving this guy long-term with big dollars. It would be like giving Prince Fielder your bag of Burger King munchies and running into the mall for some quick shopping. Bad move.

September 23, 2008  08:37 AM ET

Your right joec. The guy is a ticking time bomb and you never know what will set him off. Can Milton play, absolutely but he doesn't have the capability of controlling his emotions and based on his comments or his mouth.

September 23, 2008  12:45 PM ET

This guy would be a welcomed bat on any team.

The Indians can sure pick em and then give em away---even the nuts ones. Top ex-Indians gone mad:
1. Manny Ramirez---Manny being Manny
2. Albert Belle
3. Milton Bradley
4. Julio Franco---did you see how big he got with the Braves. Good god what hgh does to a man.

He's a solid DH candidate next year. Give him a 3 year deal and keep him on the bench when the defense is on the field to limit his injuries.
