Yankees' top free-agent target is...

CC Sabathia is the free agent the Yankees most covet, though there's a divergence of opinion whether he'd give up his two biggest dreams of playing in his home state of California (one Yankees person expressed some doubt whether he'll come, saying it would take "crazy'' money) and playing in the National League. However, money often talks in wintertime, giving the Yankees hope they can beat out the Angels and other preferred locales.

Pair him up with david Wells and give them pinstripe-spandex one-piece jumpsuits and you have the next great WWE tag-team champs - the Bronx Bombers, combined weight 630 + pounds! Where is Vince McMahon when you need him?

September 23, 2008  08:46 AM ET

I say they'll give him $1 mil per pound...

its baseball- no salary cap-
the yankees play the GAME the way the rules allow.....

I personally would love the yanks to home gorw- AS THEY TRIED THIS YEAR
but if it doesn't work- why not try and get a Free Agent pitcher ?

September 23, 2008  09:14 AM ET

I think I'm gonna be sick.

September 23, 2008  09:19 AM ET

That is not a very flattering picture of Mr. Sabathia. I'll take him in the Bronx though. It is starting to sound like he might wanna go to the west coast though...

The Memphis Tigers added Cabrera, Willis and Shef? I'll have to check their recruits again, i don't remember those names . . .

September 23, 2008  09:38 AM ET

By the time free-agency comes around comes around this fat **** will be 400+

September 23, 2008  09:53 AM ET

Go get him!!

Yanks rotation next year: CC, Wang, AJ Burnett, Pettitte, Mussina.

September 23, 2008  09:58 AM ET

No news at all. However, CC is a California guy. If the Angels or Dodgers throw enough money at him, he will be in L.A.

September 23, 2008  09:58 AM ET

yes he is on the short list, but if he wants to be in CA, and in the NL lets not bet the farm on him.. we all know what happens once someone gets a huge contract...

Memphis??!!! Haha, that's even worse. Ok, until you move to a real city with actual sports teams, please keep your comments relegated to college basketball, country music, pick-up trucks, Elvis sightings and share cropping

CC Sabathia is not the answer to the Yankees. Alex Rodriguez is. Yes, that same Alex Rodriguez who have no leadership and the same one who has never won anything since high school. And the same one who shines when there is no pressure. And yes, the same one who screams at other ball players, who elbows, who cheats on wife, whose team always underperforms when he is around, who puts himself far ahead of team, etc..

If you get rid of that sc*mb*g and bring in any decent third baseman, Yankees will start winning again. Brain-less Cashman ought to be fired for being stupid enough to bring in the loser. When Alex Rodriguez left Seattle, Mariners broke the record for wins in a season. When he left Texas, Rangers who live at the bottom of standings suddenly won their division, when he arrived in NY, Yankees couldn't beat Boston with a lead of 3-0 in playoffs. When he played in World Baseball Classic, USA couldn't even beat Korea. He is the loser who is causing the Yankees to lose even with the highest payroll in baseball.

Get rid of the bum.
