Ex-Packer: Rodgers better than Romo

Former Packers all-pro safety LeRoy Butler analyzed the Cowboys-Packers game: "I saw the game in person and I played 12 years so I want people to know that, from what I saw, Aaron Rodgers is a better quarterback than Tony Romo. Based on throwing the ball in certain areas. The interception Romo threw to Collins and some of these other passes and the way he moves around, Aaron is a much better quarterback. Aaron doesn't put his team in those kinds of situations. When you look at Romo's stats, you'll see those long passes and those glamour things. Aaron's stats are OK, too, but if he gets the opportunity to throw 40 or 50 times a game, he's going to be good."

I will say it like this.....Rodgers is a better decision maker. He won't force as many balls as Tony does. The Packers offense has more playmakers outside and alot of the offense is slants, 5-10yd comebacks, and in's\out's. When a Defense is backed up playing zone, it's easy to have a high percentage rates.

The Cowboys Defense is Horrible in Zone. When the get in Man to Man, they look like a totally different Defense. Romo is better.

Romo - absolutely the second most overrated QB currently playing the game. The most overrated, laid an egg last night in San Diego.

September 23, 2008  05:56 AM ET

I don't know how you can say he is overrated.

Brett Favre has almost every record. That is the dumbest thing you could have said.

Obviously, you are a p***** off Pats fan. Calm down, other teams can have good QB's too.

September 23, 2008  05:58 AM ET

The reason the Pats looked so good over the years was because of their Division. That division is getting better, but still nothing to write home about.

Come play in the NFC BEAST and see how you do.

how do you "over-rate" a Qb on a 3-0 team?? laughable

September 23, 2008  07:25 AM ET

By Leroy's own breakdown of the quarterback position, Rodgers is a "much better quarterback" than Favre, as well. To me, just reading it, it's as if you could take out Romo's name completely and put in Favre's instead.

September 23, 2008  07:29 AM ET

No one hates all things "Cowboy-esque" more than I do. However, the statement made by Mr. Butler is more of a testament about to whom his allegiance lies than a legitimate evaluation of talent. Aaron Rodgers is playing very well for a quarterback starting in only his third NFL game but he doesn't match Romo's productivity. Wow! Did I really say that?

Also, in response to:

"how do you "over-rate" a Qb on a 3-0 team?? laughable"

Is it impossible to overrate Kerry Collins and Trent Edwards?

September 23, 2008  07:37 AM ET

While watching the game last night I got the feeling that the ESPiN crew pulled so hard for Favre to come back, so that they could poke him with a stick.....

That being said, this is a dumbashe story. First of all, by Butler's comparison Rodgers is better than ANY QB playing in the league(NOT). Secondly, by Butler making this statement, "Aaron's stats are OK, too, but if he gets the opportunity to throw 40 or 50 times a game, he's going to be good.", what is Butler saying? Is he saying that GB's 'O' is SOoooo bad that Rodgers is not allowed to be the great QB he thinks he is. And C, I know this little ditty opens up the wrist that is FanNation Romo(Cowboys) haters......but please, THIS IS A DUMB THREAD!!! Try to stop yourselves.....

HA! OUTLOUD!!!!

Get used to it. The football media clearly recognizes the Cowboys as the team to beat in the NFC, and probably the whole league, but they can dream. They want the Cowboys to lose so badly to anybody that they'll hype any team with a hint of a chance and hope as hard as they can that they'll beat the Cowboys. When the Cowboys inevitably lose a game (no one is going 16-0 this year) they'll be able to sigh in relief and talk about how that proves Romo is just lucky and isn't really a good QB.

But every week that the Cowboys win, you'll see stories like this one and the ones after last week's Eagles game. If you read the media stories, it sounds like the Cowboys lost by a lot because of how much better the other guys looked (despite losing.)

Just get used to it, fellow Cowboys fans: win or lose, the stories the next day will be about how they really aren't as good as the team they just beat (or if they lost, how that proves what they've been saying all along.) Oh, and don't forget, no playoff win for Romo, so it's all just smoke and mirrors anyway.

...or as I like the call it. The LOVE (insert sarcasm) that keeps FanNation going!

How about 1 and done in the playoffs when they were the overwhelming favorites.

Including his new record: most interceptions by a QB in a career, 290 and counting.

You can talk about stats all day long but we all must remember, Romo is nailing jessica simpson. For this reasoning alone he is the better QB

Yet, he still wins. Just like Favre used to do. I'll take an overrated QB like Romo over an Aaron Rodgers who can't win the big one. Yeah, I said it. Sure he's only started three games, but when the big boys came to town he couldn't get the job done. Oh yeah, and he couldn't last year too. Doesn't matter how many times you put the ball up, if your team comes out with a "L" it's all moot, isn't it?
