Will Ibanez bolt from Mariners?

The Mariners' final homestand of the season begins Monday. Will it be the final time Raul Ibanez calls Safeco Field home? Logic and baseball history says it probably will be. Ibanez, who will be a free agent this winter, doesn't want to think in such terms. But the Mariners, owners of the worst record in baseball despite a $121 million payroll, almost certainly aren't going to win next year. Ibanez, 36, will probably be signing his last multi-year contract. It will be his final chance to play for a winner. After three consecutive seasons of 100-plus RBIs, he is going to get good money. But the perk of playing for a contender in 2009 is something the Mariners can't offer.

Um... Stupid question. Although, Barry Zito went to the Giants. And FA's keep signing with KC, and Baltimore.

This guy is underrated beyond belief and would be a great addition to any team.

Non-story......... good player, bad team. Will he lead his alleged 'new' team to a WS? Probably not (not a superstar). Will the Mariners suck any worse without him? Perhaps, but they'll free up a nice chunk of change (the money it would take to retain him and still suck).

I disagree, he's good but not great. I don't know too much about his personal life which is definitely a plus these days. I say he'd help a team but not be their catalyst.
