Paterno keeps media guessing
Will they or won't they? Trying to decipher when Penn State coach Joe Paterno decides to allow Maurice Evans and Abe Koroma to play has become an exercise in tedium. However, one person with a keen insight into the mind of a football coach was fairly confident the suspended players would return in time to face his team: Illinois coach Ron Zook. "They're going to be back," Zook said yesterday during his Big Ten conference call. "I don't think there's any question they're going to be in there." No. 12 Penn State (4-0) hosts No. 22 Illinois (2-1) Saturday. Its not only its Big Ten opener, but also the anticipated first test for a squad that breezed through its non-conference schedule. Evans and Koroma, both starting defensive linemen, returned to practice Monday for the first time since Sept. 2, when police reportedly found a small amount of marijuana in their on-campus apartment. Beyond that nugget of information, Paterno would not say yesterday when the juniors, who have missed three games, would return. "I'm not so sure what I'm going to do the rest of the week," Paterno said during his weekly teleconference.

Actually that would be kind of cool. It probably will not happen, but it would a great way to sign out.

No way Joe risks a number 12 ranking and another "W" in the win column, he's thrown integrity out the window as he tries to secure his legacy.

I doubt they play before their charges are worked out.
It would be great to have them back but we're just fine without them. I think we have 14 sacks in 4 games?

I don't know about Penn State winning the Nat'l Title this year (I guess we'll have a better idea after Illinois), but that would be a nice way for JoePa to go out. For a couple of years, I honestly didn't think he'd catch Coach Bowden in wins, but now I don't see Coach Bowden being able to catch JoePa again.

I think with a real OC now in Jimbo Fisher and what FSU has lined up for 2009 (recruits); the future looks good for coach Bowden to saty through the end of the 2010 season and rack up around another 20 victories ('08+'09+'10) over that period.

I love JaoPa's interviews with the media... they are classic. I liek when he was asked about the kid being dressed and he asked the reporter what he was wearing.

Opps Joe Pa crapped his pants at OSU in 2006! I love Joe Pa but, for God sakes RETIRE! Its time to go to the old folks home and rest. Nobody will look down on you for stepping down. Do it before you go crazy!

Of course he will let them play. With USC losing he knows that a win could get them into the Top 10, with some other help. It's clear at this point that Joe is more concerned about the win record than doing what is right.
