Bears DT disagrees with Bradley cut

At least one Bear did not agree with the team's decision Tuesday to release wide receiver Mark Bradley. Defensive tackle Tommie Harris, a college teammate of Bradley's at Oklahoma, thought the Bears failed to give the former second-round pick the opportunity to excel. "I don't feel like he had a fair chance," Harris said. "I feel like he just had his job taken from him. "You know how it goes: He had a knee surgery, then he lost his job." Bradley, who never lived up to his potential, was on the verge of getting cut before the regular season started. The Bears opted to release Brandon Rideau and Mike Hass and re-signed Rideau to the practice squad. Don't expect Rideau to be promoted, at least not immediately. Harris said he had a conversation with Bradley in the preseason during which Bradley indicated he asked the team for his release.

Bradley should jump on the first thing smoking to Seattle.

For once, an athlete opens his mouth and isn't clueless. I agree with Tommie Harris on this one, despite the fact they were teammates. Bradley showed flashes but was never fully utilized because of the poor quarterback play. It's funny how he's shown the door but Rex Grossman, the man most responsible for not making Bradley and better player, is still on the team. Look at the wideouts on Atlanta? It's funny how once Vick left town that Roddy White and Michael Jenkins, once assailed in the media as busts, are decent to above-average receivers once they get a REAL quarterback behind center. I wouldn't be surprised if Bradley goes to another team and becomes a solid contributor. Another dimwit move by the team who drafted Cedric Benson, and the Bears wonder why Green Bay AND Minnesota passed them by over the last few years. Morons.

seattle should be on the phone to his agent

September 24, 2008  09:28 AM ET

They cut this guy but Rex Grossman and Orton still have a job why?

September 24, 2008  09:46 AM ET

i thought bradley had a really good chance to be right up there with the best...

yeah he was injury prone, but you have to give the guy a decent chance...other than the first 2 years i didnt see him at ALL....

they call bradley a disappointment but you put a kick returner in a wide receiver spot and he aint doing ****...you bring back booker...big mistake...you promote devin hester..time will prove that was a mistake...

but you spend a 2nd round pick on someone and release them...and oh by the way...vaughn9...orton was the only pick from 2004 still on the team when we took benson bradley, and so on...orton is the only one that remains...

i guess they still dont realize the defense did it all..nowadays the defense cant do anything...id keep what little offense you have..

They need to cut the three stooges, Michael McCaskey, Jerry Angelo, and Lovie Smith.

WOW! you fools will try to make anything about Vick huh?...

September 24, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Sorry, but that's how it works. He must not have been that great considering that the job of the player personnel people is too evaluate and screen for players that really aren't worth the money.

September 24, 2008  11:11 AM ET

I also think that Bradley could have been a solid contributor, but wasn't given a chance.

As far as the Bears being passed up by the Packers and Vikings...I really don't think the Vikings have officially done that yet. I'm betting the Bears will be second in the division to the Packers.

September 24, 2008  11:14 AM ET

Hey antonio, stop being an ignorant Vick apologist and see the REAL point. The point is you can't sometimes judge a player when he hasn't been given the opportunity to excel. Wideouts playing with Michael Vick are an example, I have no bone to pick with Vick, I was simply making an example. I guess you didn't notice how I threw Rex Grossman under the bus with your head so busy up Michael Vick's arse. My post was far more insulting to the Bears organization, but I guess in your wisdom you missed that point as well. The point is this: Michael Vick did what he did, he's paying his price and I welcome any opportunities for him to resume his career, so stop being a whiny clueless apologist crybaby and get the point and while you're at it, take Michael Vicks nutts out of your mouth groupie.

September 24, 2008  11:18 AM ET

I dont like the move either. M Bradley was solid.

September 24, 2008  11:34 AM ET

bradley HAS talent, the problem is...there's no qb on the roster(rex, maaaybe) who can actually do anything with the ball. unless bradley grows to be 7 foot tall and can catch those god awful loft ups that orton throws...the WR's in chitown are useless. he was also hurt almost on a daily basis. not to mention the coaching staff has favorites and don't always make the smartest decisions(benson over tj? what the f...). if anything, it makes them look even more stupid by releasing the guy because mike hass CAUGHT the ball everytime it was thrown to him yet, they cut him. again, huh? wha??

September 24, 2008  12:48 PM ET

I agree with the general commentary. It is hard to evaluate WR talent on the Bears because of the QB situation. TO and Moss could be on the Bears and their stats would be mediocore or average at best. Bradely will get another chance with another team. That chance will probably determine whether he deserves to stay in the NFL or not.

the recievers are not the problem the porblem is qb all when need is a decent qb and the bears are set we dont need a amazing qb(all though that be will nice)

OK, so, Bradley is cut but, how come Ron Turner is still keeping his job? His offensive schemes are .... offensive! Yet, there he is! Week after week! The same stupid plays! The same predictable paterns!

We do have a QB who looks great, although I wouldn't feel comfortable with throwing him into the fire as the starter yet.

He would decidedly look better if he saved those stupid "cat fish" whiskers of his and got a decent hair cut. It's hard to take him seriously when he looks like a tryout for "Dumb and Dumber" Part 3!

Our QB is not the prob, its the offensive play calling and HORRIBLE Oline play. Why does Ron Turner throw deep on 3rd and 1, run up the gut on 3rd and 8? Turner must go!
