Hossa already impressing Red Wings

07:45 AM ET 09.24 | Marian Hossa has skated with the Red Wings for nearly two weeks, but his formal on-ice induction begins this morning, where he's slated to debut on the right wing of Pavel Datsyuk. Nicklas Lidstrom, who undoubtedly will be feeding Hossa outlet passes at some point, has seen a good deal of Hossa the past few days during precamp practices at Joe Louis Arena. What left the biggest impression was how quickly Hossa joined in back-checking. For a group that won the Stanley Cup thanks in large part to team-wide commitment to defense, Hossa's willingness to work at both ends of the ice can't be overvalued.

I still hate to see that picture, but good luck to ya Hossa.

Hossa always worked both ends of the ice, this is not surprising.

You might want to change your name to joefordnretarded.

Pens and Wings, two great teams, one has been great for awhile, one has only shown us the greatness we will enjoy for years. Fans sell out one of these arenas.

September 24, 2008  09:31 AM ET

Don't care we still kicked your arses. Call all the names you want but we have the cup and your old goalie and one of your best playoff performers HOSSA. Even they said if you can't beat em join em. Ain't rivalries great. Can't wait for the first game against toronto. See you boys next spring if you make it.

Warrior gloves, Nike skated, Mission helmet, Reebok uni, this guy's all over the place...which I guess seems fitting for Hossa.

Still the same, splitting up Hank and Pavel...I don't know about that. They have such a good feel for each other.

Not as much as I do.

Totally dislike the guy.

Takes the shine off the Wings.

I see he wears those Mini Me gloves. A well placed slash should have him out of the line up.

You can but dream, Hank ....

September 24, 2008  10:43 AM ET

I cannot believe that Hank would condone such actions, so I have to assume someone took over his email. Psst, slashing is illegal.

just ask Mario. I believe that they still hate Adam Graves for that, even though he didn't really do anything

My name is Hank Kinglsey and I approve of slashing Hossa....

Hossa is a fine player and would be valued highly by almost any NHL team. As far as the talent-rich Wings are concerned, however, he is a journeyman and a rental player.

I wish you the best, Hossa. Just remember that you are just one of the boys.

September 24, 2008  12:28 PM ET

Hossa is a great all around player. The Pens will be hurt with the loss of him. However, they have a very solid young team that is going to develop even more. Look for the Pens to go deep into the playoffs and I wouldn't be shocked to see a Wings/Pens Final again.

Yeah, not much... just broke his wrist - something you need in hockey. If he didn't really "do anything", why are we still talking about it 16 years later?

September 24, 2008  01:20 PM ET

This is somewhat assumed, since the Wings would want nothing at all to do with a one-way player. Much as this is good news, it kinda makes one of those "duh" reactions.

Very good observation. Verrrrrrry good.

TOO good, in fact.

There is clearly more going on with Santapig than any of us know. All I know is that I'm going to shut the blinds and hide under the covers.

Anyone who doubts that Hank truly enjoys 'old time hockey' cannot read past a third grade level.
