Quarterback Garrett Green moved up to No. 2 on the USC depth chart this week. He vaulted ahead of redshirt freshman Aaron Corp and sophomore Mitch Mustain to become starter Mark Sanchez's backup for Thursday night's Pacific 10 Conference opener against Oregon State. Coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian said they moved Green ahead of Corp and Mustain because of his experience in the system.

I did not realize that Garrett Green was such a top prospect coming out of High School as a duel threat QB. I would like to see what he can do; hopefully he will get a chance Thursday night, during the third of fourth quarter (I hope 'SC has a huge lead at that point).

For the record, I don't think anyone outside the 'SC family will interested in this story.

Great kid...... good luck.

September 24, 2008  10:22 AM ET

Better watch out for Mustains mother....she's mean and vindictive.

September 24, 2008  10:25 AM ET

Fourth string now for Mustain. How soon before his mama trashes Carroll, and he transfers somewhere else to become the star mama wants.....lol

I could play QB for this team and win against Oregon State, go SC!

September 24, 2008  11:46 AM ET

And with the kid coming in next year that is just crazy! I would bet Mustain leaves.

Jabril,

I don't know this Garrett kid (I'll look him up), but I had no idea SC recruited dual-threat QBs. It seems to go against their offensive identity (Lord knows they don't need another running threat). But in my opinion, SC is already scary, but a dual-threat (semi-accurate) QB would just be pouring salt in every other teams' wound.

Carroll has so ridiculously stacked his team I have to beleive it's going to start working against him soon. I don't know how he talks so many top prospects into going there when there is only so much playing time to go around. Yeah some kids like to compete for their spots but at a certain point, the players want to get exposure because, let's face it, they are interested in getting exposure to the NFL.

The players start to turn on the coach and each other when they feel they aren't getting a fair chance to show their stuff.

I predict some transfers in the coming off season

If this happens Mustain has to leave. The only problem is that the kid may have to go 1-AA.

September 24, 2008  12:32 PM ET

Competition Tuesday (Sunday) brought out the best in GG. He can play and he's the ultimate 'team player'. Let's hope Corp and Mustain keep working!

Fight On! Looking forward to another national audience tomorrow night up in Corvallis.

What impresses me is that he plays on several special teams units. I wonder if Mitch will start returning punts!!!

September 24, 2008  02:14 PM ET

Fight On, USC!!!!!

See Matt Cassell...

Mustain 4th string. He never should have went to USC. He had offers to play for good teams where he would be the starter right now, like Texas Tech. The golden child may never see the field again. I guess he coult transfer again. His high school coach is at Tulsa.

September 24, 2008  03:38 PM ET

So basically UCLA is starving for talent and hoping for a few more table scraps from USC because they are too good..... Look, there will always be kids that would play at a lower team, like UCLA, so that they get a chance to start..... those aren't the kids that win football games for you..... the ones that win games believe they are the best of the best and work hard to prove it..... and believe they are ready to take USC's depth chart by storm.... granted, quite a few have an overly inflated opinion of themselves and will barely play, but 18 year old kids haven't figured that out yet.....

Maybe he can start for the Patriots in a couple of years.....

Yeah, I don't think so. Oregon State always plays tough at home against USC. 2000: OSU Wins ; 2004: OSU loses by a late 4th Qtr punt return for a TD by Reggie Bush. 2006: OSU wins. At the Coliseum, this game is over at the end of the 1st Quarter. At Reser....USC will still win, but it won't be as easy as it should be.

GO BEAVS!!!

It's not about recruiting dual-threat QBs. It's about recruiting athletes (preferably smart ones). Athletes can play almost any position that their size allows.

Look at one of the latest SC recruits. 6'5" 230 lbs. DE/QB in high school. He'll probably play DE at the collegiate level. How many other DEs have played QB in high school? You can see why this guy might be extra special.

And, one of the major recruiting tools is the pro-style offense. This will always give SC the leg up in recruiting for the very best players. Fans should pray they never change.

That's big news! I'm sure it will have a huge impact on the Trojan's 35 point half-time lead. Irrelevant really.
