Red Wings GM to meet with agents
"I've got them teed up," Red Wings GM Ken Holland said Monday, meaning he's set meetings with the agents for Mathieu Schneider, Todd Bertuzzi and Dominik Hasek in Columbus during the NHL draft. Hasek would seem to be the likeliest to re-sign soon.

It's kinda cool to watch these guys unselfishly structure contracts to keep playin that all-for-one Red Wing style. What it must be like to have a top notch ownership who cares about his team and fans? ( queue dream sequence) Sorry just wonderin' what a Wirtz-less world would be like.

You can tell which players are team players & which ones are more mercenary...I don't have anything against guys going for the money, but I think more hockey players are happy playing unlike other sports where it seems to be more about the money.

I feel for you Hawks fan, I feel your pain. Chicago could be a great hockey city if the Blackhawks had a real owner. I've been to the United Center. It was a cool place to see a game and it just so happened it was the Hawks and Wings I saw there. I used to love the "rivalry" the Wings and Hawks had in the late 80s and early 90s. But not going with that since Roenick, Savard and Chelios left. Of course, Savard came back to coach but I don't think he's the answer. Chicago had a rough and tumble team at one time that I don't think any NHL team liked playing against.

NHL NEEDS CHICAGO TO HAVE A GREAT TEAM !!!
CHICAGO NEEDS TO BE PUSHING DEEP INTO THE PLAYOFFS EVERY YEAR... ITS SAD THERE AND I DONT EVEN SEE START OF TURNING IT AROUND, BUT IT HAS TO HAPPEND, IT A HUGE MARKET THAT NHL NEED DESPERATLY RIGHT NOW.

HASEK WILL SIGN FAST ..... 1.5-2 MIL A YEAR AND HE WILL GET 1MIL BONUS PAST THE SECOND ROUND AND 1 MIL BONUS IF THEY GET TO STANLEY CUP(MAYBE 2 IF THEY WINN). BERTUZZI SAID HE WANTS TO STAY AND I LIKE HIM THERE, I THINK HE WILL HAVE A GREAT YEAR. SCHNEIDER WILL BE HARDER, BUT THIS IS THE GUY THEY REALY REALY NEED, HE WOULD BE HUGE LOSS TO THE WINGS. ITS ALLMOST LIKE THEY HAVE TO CONCATRATE ON HIM, SINCE HASEK WILL FOR SURE NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE AND I DONT THINK BERTUZZI CAN FIND A BETTER SITUATION

I agree the NHL needs a city like Chicago to have a team that can be competitive and get in the playoffs. Problem is, there is too much parity and too many teams. The talent is spread so thin that the have nots are finding it nearly impossible to stay in the game. Another problem is the Hawks management, ownership is for the most part substandard and it's very difficult to draw quality free agents with the losing tradition this club has.

I am a Wings fan & I got to see some Chicago games...they have stretches of good games and then fall apart (usually from inexperience IMO). Hope they can bag a few good free agents, a few good picks, & maybe Khabi (their weakest link last season) shows some bounceback.

BOSTON .... ILL TAKE BERTUZZI, HE MADE ONE BAD MISTAKE IN HIS CAREER AND I AM NOT GONNA X HIM FOR THAT, MOVE ON, GIVE HIM A CHANCE AND I THINK HE WAS VERY GOOD IN THE PLAYOFFS AND WILL BE EVEN BETTER NEXT YEAR. PLUS MOORE WAS A IDIOT, DONT GET ME WRONG I DONT AGREE WITH WHAT BERTUZZI DID OR DO I SAY ITS OK, I AM SORRY FOR MOORE THAT HE ENDED HIS CARREER THAT WAY, BUT THE GUY DID THE SAME THING WEEK EGO AND THATS WHY BERTUZZI WENT AFTER HIM. ANYWAY.... I THINK BERTUZZI SERVED FOR HIS MISTAKE IN HIS LIFE.NOW, LETS MOOVE ON AND PLAY HOCKEY. ILL TAKE HIM ....

I don't think they need The Schneid as much as you guys think. Don't get me wrong, it would be great to have him back, but they've got Kron ready to move up the depth chart, Kindl was stellar in junior this year and should make the team as 4th or 5th D, Ledba is only getting better, they've already got Cheli back, and judging by his playoff performance, it looks like Quicney might be ready for full time duty as 5th or 6th D, and they could potentially re-sign Markov (nice to have his toughness on the blueline) with Schneiders money if they don't re-sign him. I think Lilja is probably gone too, but he's not really a big loss (although he was playing pretty tough in the playoffs, which was nice to see, but he's still expendable).
Don't get me wrong, I want to see Schneider back as much as anybody, but won't be heartbroken if he decides to go elsewhere and the Wings use his salary to upgrade the team in some other fashion.
And WSBK - are the CAPS necessary all the time? Kinda annoying, kinda like you're shouting at everybody, and kinda tough to read.

With Cheli back, Schneider does become a possible expensive #3 defender. If the price is $3mil or less, I say sign the man.
Personally, if Lang goes I will not be too sad. He had terrible numbers for being paid $3.8 mil & that will free up more than Schneider's salary.

Rumors are going around here in cali, that if Scotty Nieds retires, the ducks will make a move on Schneider, which would make sense
