Andy Pettitte will be a free agent at the end of the season, and while he said he would consider playing only for the Yankees next year, he hasn't decided whether he's prepared to take on the mental grind that comes with another season.

He'll be in LA with Torre

$10 he retires... then comes out of the closet next year. And since LA is a tolerable town, he will end up in LA with Joe and Manny.

That's a strong possibility, and would be my preference. Not exactly the second half smokethrower he used to be.

He will not go to L.A.

Andy has always been a Yankee, and if he decides to play next season, he will only play for the Yanks in their new stadium. He wants to retire a Yank, that is the only reason he left home (Houston) to rejoin the Yanks. No chance of him in L.A.

He would probably do well in the NL again...

Well, don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you, Andy!

So long Andy you did pretty well while you were in pinstripes for the most part.

But it is time for the Yankees and you to move on.The best offer, If there is to be any offer, the Yankees should make Andy this winter is to come back in spring training to compete for a non guaranteed salaried job. If he doesn't accept those conditions then so be it and he can leave. He had his shining final moment, so to speak on, Sunday, the Stadium finale.

Pettitte has played in 7 World Series. 6 with the Yankees and has been on the winning end of 18 postseason series, both tops among active players. He is 14-5; 3.96 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 35 postseason games. (1995-2003, 2005, 2007).

He has been an All-Star. And came close to a Cy Young Award. Maybe his biggest shining moment was when Pettitte was rocked for 7 runs and six hits over 2 1/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves in the first game of the 1996 WS. He came back in Game 5 to toss 8 1/3 scoreless innings, to set the stgae for the Yankees eventaul triumph in that WS. Sincethen it been mostly good but it in all likelihood it should end here. It was a hell of journey for both Pettitte and the Yankees. But all things pass, eventually.

I think he plays for another team and LA may be at the top of the list. If the Yanks had to make a choice between Andy and Mike they probably would be better off bringing Moose back.

I don't think Mr. Pettite has a v@gina, but as another poster said on this thread, all good things must come to an end. I was really talking more about Andy's gluteous region.

He would also be popular with the Long Island Ducks.

I think that he would make a very good addition to the Salt Lake Bees............whoa I forgot.......they don't use PED's there........whoops my bad.

September 25, 2008  09:38 AM ET

I see Andy retiring after this season and for good reason. This season has shown that he just doesn't have enough gas in the tank to make it through a full season. Imagine if the Yanks had made the playoffs... Pettitte was running on fumes by mid August so he would have been on empty in October. His last start was his first win in his last 10 games and coincidentally was the last game at Yankee Stadium. He should call it a career with the image of him walking off the mound at Yankee Stadium with the win as the last memory the fans have of him. Aside from retiring after winning the WS that would be a pretty good way to go out.
