Giambi headed to Blue Jays?

This weekend, Jason Giambi will likely play the final three games of his Yankees career, and while there are no championship rings on his fingers, Giambi wouldn't trade in his experience in New York for anything. Where will Giambi go from here? The Yankees hold a $23 million option for 2009, which they will certainly buy out for $5 million. Giambi hopes to play for several more years, so he'll be looking for a multiyear deal this winter. One potential suitor could be the Blue Jays, according to a source, as Giambi has a relationship with GM J.P. Ricciardi from their days together in Oakland and Toronto could use another big bat.

I feel a trade is brewing in the world of the Jayland. They are going to need a quality number 2-3 starter to compliment Halliday. AJ Burnett is sure to opt out of his contract but maybe he'll surprise the masses and stay. With Marcum gone for all of next year now and McGowen's status at this point somewhat of an unknown they need to pack the top end of the rotation again. Adam Lind, who has done well hitting (especially since Gaston and Tenace came aboard) but isn't a super fielding player could be traded and Travis Snider has turned quite a few heads with his play in September and he's only 20 so will he be a lock for left field next year? It's tough to say but I'd like to think that if Wells and Rios have years like they're capable of and stay healthy then adding a bat at DH like Giambi would be a plus. They just have to figure out how to get a number 2 starter if AJ opts out. Imagine if the Rios for Lincecum trade had panned out?

I would have to say yes. Some kinda fancysmancy trade embargo and a very liberal governmental regulation on medication....that's why all of the geriatrics go there to get the REALLY good gertitol

As an added bonus, Giambi's 'stache will fit in nicely with the Toronto Porn Community

September 26, 2008  09:22 AM ET

not going to happen, cashman is already talking to him about coming back to the yankees... according to the yankee website.

September 26, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Have to see if Cashman sticks around.

I only want Giambi to go to the Jays because my Uncle (huge Jays fan and live in the T. Dot) hates him.

September 26, 2008  11:05 AM ET

You know...Giambi has never played the D at first that I would have liked to have had over there, he never hit like the MVP he was paid to be...If he takes alot less then maybe, maybe he stays. Give Tex a chance...Sign and trade for a pitcher? The guy stiull hits, but not like he was supposed to, and he slumped aweful the begining of the season.

It's funny- but if you look at is #'s over the contract
(other than the 2 years he was roiding down)
they are actually MORE than decent.
Certainly not 20 mil per worthy- but pretty good

Problem is that he is simply not versitle enough for the yanks
they have already too many DH, 1st basemen players &
I just can't see them clogging another spot up with him

We don't want Giambi hes a piece of crap.

Actually the guy can still hit, has a good eye and is a good teammate. Just not 20 million worth.

September 26, 2008  11:57 AM ET

they said last night during the game that he has said that he would take less money to stay with the yankees... i know people think he is terrible Denfensively, but he really isn't, he has had some great plays this year and he has gotten better playing first base. he still has an eye, and can still hit. he has had a great season!!!

He is slow in the field, not much range, and thakfully he hasn't had to throw to second on many plays. He tries hard, dives and everything in the field, just not much range.

Are you kidding... 32 home runs 95 RBIs... jason is good, perhaps you never watched him...

and tonight, he will hit a HR against dice K should joe fills him in.

September 26, 2008  12:05 PM ET

He already stated that he would play in NY for significantly less to stay in NY. His numbers arent far off Rodriguez a potential MVP candidate 32HR 95RBI. He came to training camp this year in the best shape he had been in in years and worked hard to improve his defense. Ya he's never gonna be Scott Rolen but, he's a good teamate in the dugout and he plays hard. Seems to me he drove in significantly more runs than anyone currently on the Jay's roster they would be lucky to have him. Ya he took steroids blah blah blah a lot of people were on the Mitchell report just not so publicized. At least he had the gumption to apologise for what he did and go on with his life.

Gregg Zaun was on the Mitchell report is he a piece of crap too?

September 26, 2008  12:57 PM ET

Will he take the gold thong with him or leave it behind for Jeter?

September 26, 2008  01:13 PM ET

Why would anyone want this fat-sweaty-greasy-load?
He can't run, field, or thow..and he's a .245 hitter.
Shake it uuuuuuuuuuuuup!!!!!!!!!
