Inside East Carolina-N.C. State dispute

The dispute over football scheduling between East Carolina and N.C. State remained unresolved Thursday. Both schools released to the media a June 18, 2008, letter East Carolina athletics director Terry Holland sent to his counterparts, Lee Fowler at N.C. State and Dick Baddour at North Carolina. The letter stated that East Carolina had agreed in principle to play N.C. State in 2010, 2013 and 2016, with games against North Carolina in 2009, 2012 and 2015. In an e-mail to media members Thursday, Holland explained that he believes the letter does not nullify a legally binding contract that says East Carolina and N.C. State will play five times between now and 2016. But Holland wrote that if N.C. State has scheduled other games based on the agreement in principle stated in the letter, East Carolina will honor the agreement in the letter.

Fowler had to open his mouth to the media. He got this whole wheel spinning with his condescending comments. Try to be professional next time, remember you are the AD of a mighty "ACC, BCS" school. Have respect for your opponents, and your fellow AD's.

Fowler forced Holland to make a statement, which was straight bullet points on all the facts. There is a contract in place Fowler that says ECU must play State 5 more times by 2016. Stop quoting ESPN websites and base your facts off of the Contract that NC State signed. Your own fans dont even agree with you.

Im a huge wolfpack fan, have Lifetime seating rights for football. We have finally got solid coaching in both basketball and football. To his credit, Fowlup did bring those coaches in. Other than that though, he's agruably the worst AD in D-1. Its as if he needs the spotlight on him versus having it on the athletic programs and the athletes. There may be solid reasons for not playing ECU every year, but if theres a contract ...be it verbal or on paper we should abide by it.

I just don't understand why would Fowler make those statements unprovoked. Did he think ECU was too scared to call him out because he's from a "Big Six" conference?

I'm also a big NCSU fan but not sure about the solid coaching part.

Wolfpack,

O'Brien is a proven coach, but do you really think Sidney Lowe is a solid hire? I think the jury is still out on that one.
