Hester likely game-time decision

While the Philadelphia Eagles' top weapons, Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook, remained sidelined Thursday, the Bears got their most explosive player back. Devin Hester was on the field for the first time since tearing rib cartilage Sept. 14 at Carolina. Hester was involved in a limited part of practice, and his return is a good sign. The Bears are seemingly pointing to Sunday's game with the Eagles as his return date, but the nature of the injury makes it a likely game-time decision. He didn't wear protective gear to cover his ribs, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'd forgo such equipment in a game. The Bears could bring him back in a limited role and involve him only on special teams in an effort to get premium field position. Of course, returning kickoffs and punts would expose him to hits from all angles.

news?

If they're smart they'll let this slow-to-heal, painful injury run it's course. No point in agravating it even more. But then, nobody can accuse the Bears management of being smart!

I think the bigger question should be: Will Ron Turner continue to run the offense?

September 26, 2008  11:04 AM ET

He'll be back for Philly.

Besides Forte Hester is about the only glimmer of offense the Bears have isn't he.

Obviously you haven't been watching. Brandon Lloyd had a hell of a game last week and will continue to do so the entire season. O-line isn't too bad either.

Devin -

I'm coming for your ribs. Tell Orton, too. Just business. Sorry.

Yup he IS suspect in my book...

September 26, 2008  02:42 PM ET

For the Eagles it's the same 'ol situation...McNabb injured, yet again. Kolb from U of H is a competent backup, however, with Westbrook possibly sitting as well, the Eagles will need to drum up some offense. Their Defense is NAILS!!

September 26, 2008  04:33 PM ET

September 26, 2008  06:27 PM ET

are you implying the Cowbangers sucked as well???

Not only implying, but insisting which doesn't suk.
