Rangers may trade catcher

Gerald Laird might be the club's most tradeable commodity. The Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers may be in the market for a catcher. The Cincinnati Reds scouted him before the trade deadline. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have catching decisions looming. The situation has been complicated by developments in the last month. Jarrod Saltalamacchia capped a subpar season with a right arm injury. He won't start throwing for at least another month. His uncertain health diminishes his ability to make his case behind the plate and his trade value. Taylor Teagarden, meanwhile, has forced himself into the catching picture by hitting .349 with a 1.313 on-base-plus-slugging percentage in his 15 games. Laird's .748 OPS at catcher ranks 11th among the 27 players who have played at least 80 games at the position. The major league average OPS for catchers is .715.

The Tigers do need an everyday catcher. It appears that Dusty Ryan would be a competent back up in '09, and if we have to keep Inge and his sub-.220 BA, let's put him at third where he can at least contribute with his glove. They may have to rename "The Mendoza Line" if Inge's BA continues to slide.

Laird's kinda pudgy no?

The Tigers don't need to sell the farm AGAIN to try to be contenders. Ryan is doing ok, and Inge will hit better staying at third. The Tigers need to concentrate on getting pitching before anything else.

I don't know why the Yankee's are in talks, Posada will be back, we have Molina, and moeller. i don't really think we need another catcher... Molina has done a great job this season, and hope he stays.. Posada has said he is going to be ready, and if he isn't we can find a catcher then, or bring one up from Scranton

Throw him on the treadmill with Giambi.

So they going with Salty in Arlington? I don't know if I am sold on him. I guess he could be an upgrade over Laird if he bats higher than the .252 he is batting right now. Further, he strikes out greater than once every third time AB.

Laird can go to any of these teams, provided they give up their number one pitcher in return. If not, they can **** and move on.
