Will Gonzalez request trade from KC?

"The topic came up Tuesday between an NFL Network reporter and a Chiefs official: Would Kansas City tight end Tony Gonzalez be willing to finish his career in another city, with another team, that had a realistic chance of winning the Super Bowl? Reporter thought yes, Chiefs official thought no. Then, the question was posed to Gonzalez on Wednesday and he set the record straight. While it might not be the ideal scenario, he could see himself going to Chiefs management and requesting a trade to a Super-Bowl contender. "Yeah. I definitely could, but I love being a Chief," Gonzalez said.

age & contract = not much trade value for the chiefs.

Classy guy...standing by a terrible organization that is clearly rebuilding. I could envision the Jints going for him if Kevin Boss can't replicate the great game he had last week. But yeah, until Gonzalez says something publicly about wanting out this is just speculation.

"Chiefs official thought no."

Therein lies the problem. Maybe that official should take his heads out of the sand and take a big dip in the reality pool. Why would anyone want to be on a losing team all of the time?

I'm sure he won't "ask" for it, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind..

Poor Tony.....Just retire and be done with it as Chiefs going nowhere
fast....

September 26, 2008  08:24 AM ET

well he's old but at least go some where to win 1 game.... even if it s while he's on the bench

September 26, 2008  08:38 AM ET

I thought he was gonna' retire ...

September 26, 2008  08:46 AM ET

BigBlue4You...Good idea. If I was the GM Reese, I offer the picks they got for Shockey, a 2 and a 5...would be like an even up trade...Chiefs need a lot of players and the guy is worth it..I feel sorry for him to play on such a team, but athletes are not owed a shot a ring just because they are good...not sure where that ever got started....

He better leave now while he still has some value. He will probably go down as the greatest catching TE in history, so he better go while he has the chance.

Oh Lordy please get traded to the Eagles so somebody can put LJ Smith out of his misery

September 26, 2008  10:39 AM ET

He loves being a Chief...let him stay there.

September 26, 2008  10:48 AM ET

No, of course not. Why would Tony Gonzalez want to get traded to a Superbowl contender when he can stay with Kansas City and lose week after week?

And Weapon X................give LJ Smith a break. For a few years before his injury, LJ was the only person catching those insane lasers Donnovan as shooting out.

And now, all of a sudden, Super 5 has learned some touch, LJ drops a few balls, and you want to toss him out?

Lets also not forget how good a blocker LJ Smith is...........................

Yes, Tony Gonzalez is great...but unlike Kansas City, we don't run many plays that don't feature our TE in many ways.

I know you are on something. LJ Smith is a well known horrible blocker. And his hands stink. And he fumbles all the time.

You're just trying to fire me up....I know you don't mean those words. LJ Stiff!

I hope you go Gonzo, you deserve better in your last years. Wish you would have been a Cowboy back when you came into the NFL. Imagine what Troy could have done with you!

Once these guys start to develop diminishing skills, no one ever says "Ya know, I'm all washed up and I've made a lot of money. Why don't you just trade me to the worst team in the league?"

A team pays you good money for years and it never amounts to anything so you do what Junior Seau did and drag your crippled body out of retirement to play for the "sure" thing. If it's passed your time, ride out your contract or just bow out gracefully and stop trying to buy yourself that ring.

Jay Novacek?? Hello?? Ring any bells?

September 26, 2008  02:45 PM ET

What did Troy do without Tony G?? hmm... Three SB rings.

Run Tony run. Run away as fast as you can. If i were tony, i would get away from the disater this is the KC Chiefs. His age and contract may not get the chiefs much, but other teams know he is still better than most tightends in the game
